Sorry, the sarcasm and double meanings are flying fast and furious here. I was carrying on MindMeToo's example of French troops invading America in the event of a natural disaster. I think its important to mention, as i was trying to do, that the besides the US forces in country there are thousands of American contracted Mercenaries running around the country killing innocent civilians and making the mess even worse, because even though they man not be directly hired by the US government they do, in the end, represent part of the American face. Its just one part of the disaster that is Iraq and I think it is an often overlooked one at that.

At least some of the "interrogators" at Abu Ghraib were hired as DoD contractors.

Apparently Octavious Hite and others actually yearn for the return of the Saddam Hussein reign. So if al-Queda wins they will be happy! Happy , Happy!! I wonder did they think of the Iraqis murdered and raped by Hussein thugs every day?

You might have a point, IF the Americans and the Brits were actually preventing violent persecution in the new Iraq.

Quote:
THE death threat was delivered to Karazans father early in the morning by a masked man wearing a police uniform.
The scribbled note was brief. Karazan had to die because he was gay. In the new Baghdad, his sexuality warranted execution by the religious militias.

The father was told that if he did not hand his son over, other family members would be killed.

What scares the citys residents is how the fanatics list of enemies is growing. It includes girls who refuse to cover their hair, boys who wear theirs too long, booksellers, liberal professors and prostitutes. Three shops known to sell alcohol were bombed yesterday in the Karrada shopping district.

Quote:
Mr Hili claims that Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the most revered spiritual figure in Iraq, provoked the murders by saying on his website in April last year that homosexuals should be killed in the worst, most severe way.

Quote:
He said: Al-Sistani gave the militias a theological sanction to murder gays. He added that the ayatollah was forced to lift the fatwa against gays following protests, but refused to remove the reference to the punishment for lesbians.
These people are taking Iraq back to the Dark Ages, added Mr Hili, 33.

His nightclub, in the basement of the Palestine Hotel, was one of the best-known in the city. Restaurants and cafs along Abu Nuwas street were also popular haunts for gays.

His organisation, Iraqi LGBT, runs safe houses in the capital and an underground network to help people to leave the country.

He said: We could never envisage this happening when Saddam was overthrown. I had no love for the former President, but his regime never persecuted the gay community.

In any case, we are there and we need to deal with the situation constructively. Many who harbor antiAmerican sentiments on this board continue to criticize each and every mistake or problem with a little too much glee for my and others' liking, thus revealing their deep-seated resentment and dislike of the United States.

I don't criticize with "GLEE" but rather a deep saddness -- that a nation, no matter the good intentions, believes it can bomb/shoot/arm others into its notion of peace. Along the way, giving little notice to the tens of thousands killed.

Gopher, this isn't a chess board and you keep believing if we just "tweak" the U.S. military machine, peace and world harmony will appear. I go back to the old biblical injunction of "those who live by the sword die by the sword"

I have no resentment against the U.S. -- as people living in the U.S. I do have my qualms about their lifestyle and "culture" but also with many other societies (including Korea). What I don't like is their "exporting" of empty values and death, mayhem........

Only saddness in my voice against U.S. hegemony.....

Gop, you have become but a joke. Your only rebuke is to consistently insult and demean the opposition as unintelligent and dishonest.

You are an arrogant fool.

Gopher, I don't do it with glee, I do it with venom and anger over this Iraq mess. We, the left, said FROM THE VERY BEGINNING this would never work. Now the rest of the world recognizes that we were right so to hell with you and your support of murderers and the disastor that Iraq is. And like Bill Maher, I think maybe Iraq would be better with Saddamn back in power, the Middle east woulddn't be unravelling and ordinary Iraqi's would have electricity and wouldn't have to worry about being blown up.

Pot...calling..kettle... (cough, cough)

What a perfect example of such irony in this post.

You attack Mr. Gopher for "consistently insult[ing] and demean[ing] the opposition" and then you call him a "joke" and "arrogant fool."

In any case, you should be the last person to be accusing anyone on this forum of being a joke.
