As You know I am departing posthaste from KOREA in a few weeks, but I wanted to know about the Retirement money- I worked for a while at a Hawkwon in the Mainland - not just Jeju- so do I get that retirement money too from the Jeju retirement office? Or must I contact or travel to that Retirement / pension office in the mainland too.
I think the way they handle this retirement money is irritating it's just one more complication to bother with before you go. If they'd never taken it out I would not need to go and get it back,
Further my EPIK boss wrote the following in an email:

And We Tamna regret to inform you of this policy.
As you know, housing costs such as electric, water and gas, internet bills are charged one month later. That causes some problems when a native teacher doesn't renew his/her contract with the Jeju POE. Tamna is forced to ask you to leave a 100,000 won deposit with us amount of money, you will not be able to get your severance pay. Also, please cancel your cable, internet or any other services you have used.
The accountant in Tamna said that she will send the airfare and the severance pay to your bank account after you deposit 100,000won to me.
So sorry for the inconvenience. Please understand our situation. |
I understand their point of view- I suppose you could leave your AC on full blast or take continuous hot baths... but still I'm not going to do that, I think they should somehow plan for this ahead of time or write it in the contract to begin with. Oh well, let me say overall JEJU EPIK has been a positive experience. |

Hi,
I'm interested to hear your experience of Jeju EPIK overall!
Would you recommend it to a first time teacher?
The reason I ask is because someone recommended this option earlier today, however, the feedback in general on this board regarding EPIK programmes is generally negative! |

Well the vacations are longer than any Hawkone, and since you are in a Public School or teaching teachers it is not all about making your school money and gaining more students. But, travel time is an issue in my and many other Jeju teachers cases- where as with a Hawkone you will be in an apartment close to your school. Class size is large 30-35ish. I would recommend a university as you get 4 months vacation with perhaps more or less pay. It is a five day a week job 9-430 job so do not tkae it if you are a night person. |

I do believe GT is using almost-English in this thread. |
