I think so ... but I can't confirm "ALL".

For your particular school, ask your minder or co-teacher.

My husband says that election days are mandatory holidays because the workers need to go out and vote.

So everything should be shut down (except they don't all, but offices and schools are all closed).

I work in a hogwon and we're closed the 31st. Some of my friends working elsewhere will still be working.

What's the significance of this day?

Election day for provincial & municipal positions. The day off is considered an encouragement to vote, but in fact its counterproductive -- a lot of families regard it as a leisure day & do other stuff instead.

Many public schools serve as polling centers & some teachers serve as election day officials. For the general public, the day will seem much like a sunday with the usual stores all open. Hagwons seem about 50/50.

For you? Your boss will count it as one of your 10 days of vacation a year.

and it damn well should be. I wish election day in Canada was a mandatory holiday, I also wish there was mandatory voting by law.

Why? Democracy is largely a joke. Make the least jokish among the different governments, but kind of silly nevertheless.

How many of you are planning to vote? I've been informed, by an election official, that after 3 years in Korea, I'm eligible to vote in these local elections. Even on an E2 visa.
