I erased my preface.
Here are mine:
1. "Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads
2. "True Dreams of Wichita" by Soul Coughing
3. "Fearless" by Pink Floyd
4. "Gigantic" by the Pixies
5. "Know Your Enemy" by Rage Against the Machine
6. "Close to Me" by the Cure
7. "Start Choppin" By Dinosaur Jr.
8. "Heroin" by the Velvet Underground
9. "In My Life" by the Beatles
10. "This is a Journey into Sound" by Eric B. and Rakim
Shortlist:
"A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" by Dylan
"What I Am" by Edie Brickell
"Over the Hills and Far Away" by Led Zeppelin
Needless to say, this was a VERY hard list to make.
But fun |

Here's an idea to expand this one: a mix CD exchange. And some unlucky bastard is gonna end up with:
Dr Ring Ding - Changed
Judge Dread - Bring Back the Skins
Nods - Rude Boy
Clancy Jones - What Will Your Mama Say?
Winston Jarrett - Ease Me Up Officer
Amber Squad - Six of Me
Wednesday Night Heroes - Hated n Proud
Jane Bunnett - Osain
Suck Stuff - Why Do We Have to Respect Him?
Rux - From Now Until the End |

OK Van and Fonzie.
The thread was about the top 10 songs.
And you don't have to post all of the lyrics (especially if they're related to Celine Dion).
aFTER NUMBER 1 OR 2, what comes next?
Personally, I had between 30 and 40
The final elimination was tough, but it was a fun exercise. |

I have not a few ex-gf's that might pick "Asshole" by Dennis Leary to define me.
I would pick something like "All I wanna do is have some fun" by Sheryl Crow or "the Joker" by Steve Miller |

5. Finishing the Hat - Stephen Sondheim
6. 2nd Piano Concerto in C Minor - Rachmaninoff
7. Do You Wanna Dance? - Bette Midler
8. Everybody Knows - Concrete Blond
9. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
10. Oye Como Va - Santana |

I cannot make a top 10 I'm afraid because it's too difficult. I can however choose just ONE. That song is Iron Maiden's 'Strange World' from their 1980 eponymous debut album. I cannot say it's my FAVORITE song exactly, but I can say it's the only song that defines me. If you wanna know what makes SPIN tick, in every possible way, listen to this song. The lyrics, the music, the sound effects, the melody.....everything. It's all in there. |

"Duncan" by Paul Simon. I see myself in that song, as the seduced, and the seducer.
"It's Your Thing" by the Jackson 5 is me on my very good days.
"Hey Mama" by Black Eyed Peas is me on my very good nights.
"Mary Ellen Carter" by Stan Rogers is an anthem to persistence and faith.
"Gotta Get Over Greta" by The Nields eerily sums up a pivotal teenage friendship.
"Cecelia" by Simon and Garfunkel brings back so many memories for me. Boys on the school bus used to sing it, substituting my name (which rhymes.) Oddly, it reflects some of my fickleness in love lately.
"Hell", by Squirrel Nut Zippers was playing in the clubs when I really came into my own, finding that I had the guts to do whatever and be wherever I wanted to be.
I can't say that I relate to many of these songs on a lyrical level, but they move me in some way, or remind me of an important moment. I hope you've all learned something about Kermo today. Class dismissed. |
