Have you had any bizarre experiences while driving in Korea?

Earlier this evening, my wife, daughter and I were driving home from a friends house. This guy roundhouse kicked our car while we were driving past him!!!

I was about to sound the horn when he wandered onto the road but he looked like he was steeping back. Does he look like the violent type?

He came up to the car after we stopped but was only yabbering on about God knows what. We called the cops, they didn't take long to arrive. They took him home or something.

Hmmm I'm dissatisfied with my life and my failed business 'Happy Interiorpia'. What to do? Get drunk and:

1) slash the face of a major politician?

2) strip naked, soak my clothes in high test soju, and use them to burn down Gyeongbokgung Palace?

3) light my car on fire and try and drive it through the doors of city hall?

4) Bring some jugs of kerosene onto the Seoul subway and torch a car?

5) Chop off my fingers?

Oh I know. Stand in the middle of the street and give round house kicks to passing motor vehicles. I might not get killed.

Mindmetoo, violence and strange behavior is not limited to Korea.

Horangi, if he dammaged your car, he owes you for repairs.

I was driving on the I 95 freeway in Miami in February, late at night with very little traffic, when this guy comes speeding up behind me very close, pulls around in front of me, and slams on his brakes! I was alert enough to swerve and not hit him, but my heart didn't slow for an hour.

My best friend in Miami quit driving after another driver got p!ssed at him for something and pointed a gun at his face.

Miami has been named the road rage capital of the U.S. I am unfazed by driving in Korea. Seriously, I am the most serene western driver I know here.

After I originally posted this, I went to the Miami Herald, and this was in today's edition:

Sooner or later great talent is recognized. So we come to the summer of 2006, when after years of practice, the drivers of Miami are finally being honored as the rudest, most pig-headed bunch in the nation.

There's a certain perverse comfort in it -- even pride. We always knew we were No. 1.

AutoVantage, an auto club wisely located far away in Norwalk, Conn., surveyed 20 cities around the country and found that when it came to running red lights, tailgating, cutting into other lanes, sudden braking and stealing parking spots, no place beats Miami.

It is an interesting place to drive. Driving home from Bangoejin one night at the witching hour and lo and behold a copper jumps out from behind a sign right in front of me. I'm thinking WTF, I stop and he comes to my window, "What's the problem?" Nothing, could I get a lift. He needed a ride home as the bus to collect him hadn't arrived. I gave hime a lift, as he lived near my apartment, but I did have to chuckle, only in Korea. Smile

Driving 150 km/h on Hwy 1 and getting passed by a Bimmer750 like I was standing still is something I'm never gonna forget. I've driven all over Europe where 200km/h is not extraordinary but believe me this guy was going well over 200. And unlike Koreans, Europeans can handle those speeds. If someone had pulled out in front of him at that speed-game over

Why'd he do that? I knew a girl in high school that did that to a motorcyclist. Got in front of him, then slammed on the brakes. He flipped over her car. He wasn't seriously injured (that I know of). I had always thought she was a biatch in h.s., but this confirmed it. What goes around comes around.

Some of my friends think it was an insurance ruse. If you are hit from behind, it is the other person's fault. And late at night there are no witnesses to how you "created" the accident. I think I was so damned lucky. Sometimes this scam is done with two or three cars- one on either side of you, so you have no choice but to hit the one who has pulled in front. Then they are all "witnesses" to the accident. It is really the only excuse, besides suicide, I can think of. I was driving over 70 MPH at the time- we probably both would have been badly injured or killed in the case of a collision.

I actually had a friend badly injured when someone decided to do something similar, and the intent was suicide. The driver had intended to kill himself and his girlfriend. He survived. My friend never fully recovered from the injuries.

Bad driving in Korea? Yeah, but I have seen worse!!! And deliberately worse.
