I was driving on the I 95 freeway in Miami in February, late at night with very little traffic, when this guy comes speeding up behind me very close, pulls around in front of me, and slams on his brakes! I was alert enough to swerve and not hit him, but my heart didn't slow for an hour.

Had this happen to me in Turkey. Fortunately, I managed to stop quickly enough to avoid a big accident. But I still bumped him enough to take out one of his taillights and one of my headlights. I knew that because I'd rearended him and I was the foreigner, if the police came, I was going to hear it. So, I quickly paid him off a little more than the cost of a taillight and took off. My Turkish friends later suggested, only half in jest, that this was how this guy made a living.

I have a Gitano friend from New York, who teaches in Seattle, whose family "business" is getting hit by cars. The choose nice expensive looking cars and "get hit". The driver usually pays them off in cash (don't want to get down and dirty with a gypsy clan over a little accident) and everyone goes on their way. Hey, its a living, but hopefully not a killing!

Well I had my camera on me from taking pics and vids at my friends house. I thought he might disappear before the cops arrived too.

He wasn't violent after kicking the car, just totally drunk!!

Well, my car as a down-on-its-heels 1980 Mercedes 230E, bright yellow from a previous life as a taxi. We were on a unlit road out to a suburb of Ankara at night. Who knows? Maybe he couldn't see what he was getting. In good light he probably should have been scared of what a tank that car was. Or maybe any Mercedes is considered a good target in Turkey. In any case, I forgive him; it's given me a good story to tell.

Sometimes alluding to something is the same as saying it.

If I was in Toronto, I'd mock Toronto idiots with the same broad brush.

Because one is living in a culture and you have some fun mocking the crazy ways people in that culture behave does not mean one is saying idiots are limited to that culture. Humor does use broad brush strokes at times. ("Every city has two malls, the mall white people go to and the mall white people USED to go to...") Most people can figure that out. You can't.

You've been served.

I did a bit of driving in Korea for the first time last week. I don't find it that much different than driving back home. Driving on the side streets can be a little harrowing and trying to change lanes on the expressway when you're crawling along can be tough. You really have to earn that lane change because it sure as hell won't be given to you.

My worst experiences over the past week came from inside the car. The problem was the navigation systems. Not just the one plastered to the windshield. I'm talking about the one sitting next to me and the one in the backseat. Between the 2 of them they have a combined driving experience of less than a year whereas I'm looking at somewhere around 25 years. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil This lane is for big trucks. This lane is for small cars. This lane goes to Busan. That last one was the worst one. I heard that throughout the trip. I tried to point out on a few occasions that that particular lane doesn't magically end or I'll suddenly be transported to Incheon. I'm driving! I'll drive in any fucking lane I want!

Yeah, a plate long-winded BS.

You didn't get my comment about going to Toronto and fitting in? Must be from Toronto (or not Canada) if you've oblivious to the fact that being a Torontonian is seen as a disfunction by most Canadians.

I gotta get in on this funky quote pattern. Could someone quote me please. I could do it myself, but I think that would be cheating. Thanks.

I promise I'll quote you if you edit your own quote to show my new and improved post instead of the original one.

WOW! I really feel like I'm part of something big. Thanks. This could potentially affect generations to come. Or, perhaps I should not have kids. Yeah, that might be better.
