It's official. Like many, I've been following university employment conditions for some time now, and am happy to announce that there is a new 'worst of the worst'! This dubious distinction was previously held by Cheju National University, but now the torch has been passed.

Congratulations Jeonju University!

22 hours per week
Salary: B.A. 1,600,000 Won/month; M.A. 1,750,000 Won/month Camp teaching offered during the breaks is paid separately. Also, overtime is paid for more than 22 hours of teaching/week.
Vacation: Approximately 16 weeks a year
Other Duties: Work in the English Cafe on campus throughout the semester (1-2 hours a week). Also, teach at least one English Camp per year (summer and/or winter).

Feel free to post updates on newly offered positions that are equally laughable.

If there's an overseas newbie who really wants to work uni, this would be the job for him, because I'm sure no one in Korea would take it.

It doesn't sound that bad. I had a friend who worked at what I think was Jeju National a few years ago (was on Jeju Island anyway) and he was making only 1.6, but told me that he had so many opportunities for editing and/or privates that if he took them all up he'd easily be making 3-4 million for the same hours I was at my hagwon. Admit he probably worked less than 22 hours a week though.

I've never worked at a university, but always been jealous of the instant pool of dozens of privates that working at one seems to bring. So I'd be quite happy for 1.6 at a university myself.

Yeah, that's pretty crappy. Should pay at least 3 million. At least.

Do you get paid holidays when you work at a university? It doesn't seem that bad to me if you get 4 months paid holidays.

Here's a newsflash ... for some, money isn't everything. It's not completely inconceivable that someone might take the job. I know I wouldn't, but for someone looking for a bit more holiday time, they might well consider it.

The two previous posts are exactly why university positions have turned into such a farce here. Money isn't everything, but being compensated a fair and equitable amount is.

Incheon University isn't that far from the conditions offered.
Salary is a little higher at Incheon, but the rest of it is similar.

Once again we have situations where people here with undergrad degrees really think they are professors. They really think that their undergraduate degree entitles them to a professor's salary. They are not professors, and should not be so dismissive of jobs which, anywhere else on the planet, they wouldn't even be considered for.
