I'm looking for loud battery-powered sound, but still somewhat portable. I checked out the iPod boombox in the Apple store today. It sounds great and it seems to have huge power. It has an audio-in jack, so I should be able to run other sound sources into it. The catch is that it costs almost 400,000 won.

Anybody know something else out there (hopefully also available in Korea) that has enough power to fill a large room or small outdoor party. The typical travel speakers are not going to do the trick for me. Definitely want something louder.

If you can get things shipped from the States you'd be better off, and you'd have a lot more variety. Check out Apple's website, you'll find a whole range of devices that should fit your needs. If that's not an option, I'm afraid I can't offer much advice. I don't know if Apple ships internationally, I've never looked in to it.

Thanks for the suggestion.
To my knowledge, everything available from the Apple store and connected retailers is either much weaker in power than the iPod hifi or else not battery-powered. I think I've checked out pretty much everything else available through the Apple store, but I'll look again.

The boombox, is that the Apple HIFI?

If so, stay away and get something cheaper in Korea. The HIFI is a scam.

Go to the Creative site and look up the Travel Sound 400 speaker set. It runs on AA batteries, has a line in, and has a titanium shell to protect itself while on the go. I have also heard that it has great sound. The Travel Sound line is perfect for travellers and for anyone on the go.

The Travel Sound 200 is going for around 99 USD, but I'm not sure about the 400. Either will be easy to pick up if you are not in Korea, while you may need to do a little more searching if you are in Korea since the newer stuff from Creative Labs, usually take a while to become available here.

I bought the iPod HiFi from the Apple store in CoEx and I'd recommend it.

Sure it's 390,000W but I love having my music sounding crisp and I felt it offered much more than the smaller Bose and other units they had on display. If you want to be a little more adventurous then head to the audio part of Yongsan Electronics Market, I'm sure you could dig something up there if you looked hard enough.

As for importing the Apple thing, there's no point. The price here is comparable to the US, so when you add on the 10% import tax and shipping it's not a sensible move.
