Dante postulated that the Hill of Purgatory lies directly on the other side of the world from Bethlehem.

Looking on the map, it seems that Israel is something like 45 degrees east and 30 degrees north.
The opposite of that would be 135 degrees west and 60 degrees south.
That would place the Hill of Purgatory in the South Pacific Ocean, in a place with no charted islands anywhere in sight.

I never saw the movie or read the book, but I understand that Rosemary's Baby was born halfway round the year between Christmas and Christmas.
Instead of Three Wise Men, he was visited by Three Warlocks.
In other words, everything in the Christmas story is reversed.

I wondered why the author didn't pinpoint the opposite location also.
Now I see why: Rosemary's Baby would have to be born as a dolphin.

I have read dante's inferno, unfortunately i don't remember the specifics. However, I don't recall seeing coordinates nor a location. Can it possible that you are referring to one of the other three books of the trilogy?

I think I calculated wrong the first time.
The longitude was right, but the latitude should be 30 degrees south, not 90 minus 30 degrees south.
That would mark the spot south of the Pitcairn Islands, a territory of Great Britain.
Rosemary's Baby would still have to be a dolphin.

I did the calculations and the hill of purgatory seem to be directly up the hill from Hamilton hotel, in the exact location where Hooker Hill seems to be located.

Korea is 120-plus degrees east and 40 degrees south.
So the opposite point is 60-minus degrees west and 40 degrees south.
That puts it off the coast of Bahia Blanca in Argentina.

The next time a poster says "I want to get as far away as I can from Korea,"
we shall suggest Argentina.

You might be right.
I read about a guy who travelled around the world giving lectures arguing that the world was flat.
A heckler would usually ask how he travelled around the world if the world was flat.
He answered that he travelled in a circle on a flat surface.

I get so little foreign language experience that
I have a hard time believing that I'm in a foreign country.
I bet the pilot pulled a fast one and landed me in a Korean neighborhood in North America.

Does anyone know a technical name an two opposite point on a sphere?
I thought it might be either apogee or perigee, but I looked those two words up and they don't fit.

you know what gets me? the story of jesus's birth is that mary was a virgin when she was impregnated by god, he was born in a manger and visited by 3 kings following a star that noone else saw and carrying the most expensive shit in the known world who couldn't talk an innkeeper into finding a better room for the birth...and people say that he couldn't have been born during the winter because it would have been inconvenient for mary to travel during those bitter egyptian winters, as if that was the incredulous part of the story.
