I enjoyed it, but it's a bit of stating the obvious. If the premise is that we all came out of Africa in the first place, then we're only talking degrees of separation.

Love genetics.

It's a bit more than that from what I can gather. It's a math based theory, but I'd be hard put to state it in my own words, which I guess means I don't fully understand it.

Well, no, it really isn't. The only thing in question is how far back we have to go to find a common ancestor. While only anecdotal, it is illustrative of the concept: I have an aunt that was a minor actress way back in the 50's... maybe into the 60's. Her Bacon Number ( degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon ) is less than 3. Thus, my Bacon number is right around or just more than 3.5. Yet, he and I are in the SAME generation, which means you ahve to go back some generations to get a connection.... were this genetics...!

If you extrapolate backwards to find genetic counterparts (4 grandparents, 8 great grandparents, 16 great grandparents, 32....), it's not difficult to imagine you wouldn't need to go very far to get into a very, very high degree of complexity.

Then, imagine the point where you hit the bottleneck where the number can only go down because so few people were living at a given time.... that time is VERY recent. There are FAR more people on the planet now than lived in the previous 4 million years... for example.

No, this isn't all that complex. It becomes complex only when you try to tie specific persons together.

Kumbaya.... We are the world.... Dust in the wind.... how many roads must a man walk down...
