Anyone know if there is a Thai restaurant in Daegu and if so, where it is located?

I've tried the restaurant threads but didn't find useful info for Daegu.

If there isn't a Thai restaurant feel free to recommend a different restaurant! I'm interested in anything non-Korean, non-Italian and non-smoking.

There are no Thai restaurants in Daegu. Koreans don't like Thai food so the only place where you can find that is in Itaewon, Seoul.

If you like Indian food, you could try Alibaba's. It's across from the Bukbu bus terminal on the second floor. There's also a Vietnamese noodle restaurant one block from there. I have never tried it, so I don't know if it is good.

Not true. Ewha Uni, Jongno, Myeong-dong, Hongdae, and Gwanghwamun all have decent Thai places. I happen to know several Koreans who absolutely adore Thai food.

Yer an idiot.
Why don't you keep your mouth shut about your uneducated opinions. It's as if you're deliberatelt trying to mislead.

There was a great Thai place in Soosung Gu, and the owner hired Thai national chefs. They did a wonderful job and the restaurant was popular.
Unfortunately, the building was in dire straights and was demolished to make way for a new one.
The new building should be finished in a few months.

There is a Vietnamese / Thai place also in Soo sung Gu. It is across from the Arianna Hotel....all taxi drivers will know the Arianna Hotel. The restaurant name is XIN CHAO. It's great and also very popular. But there are only a few Thai dishes there.

If you go there, look at the vacant lot to the right...that is where the new Thai place will be.

And, back at Dev again... your info behind the beauty myth of Daegu's woman was also incorrect. I don't know of any daegu-ite who professes that Daegu apples are good for the skin.
Moron.

Nice choice of words. Wink They say a lot about your character. I, for one, am disappointed. Although I frequently disagreed with you, I thought you were a better man.

There is a chinese fusion joint downtown called Ye Goong. It's difficult to direct you to, but if you know where the Korean Restaurant Gye Jung is, well, it's a few buildings to the left of that. They have some interesting stuff on the menu...not all classic chinese fair.

Also downtown, there is also a French -ish place called Dijon. They have a wide variety of mediterranean dishes.

And there is a mediocre Indian place downtown on the street that runs away from the fountain, between the Burger King and McDonalds. It's called Gandi. Not authentic, but not too bad.

And, also downtown, if you can find the GalleryZone department store, there is a vietnamese noodle place on the main floor accessible from the street.

Oh, yeah, and in the basement food court of the Lotte Department store downtown, there's a Turkish Kebab counter... you gotta search it out, though.

ooooh yeah, and a Russian place. Walking from Lotte Department store, turn left at the first main intersection that actually has some CAR traffic. There will be a Maestro clothes shop and Jeil bank at the intersection. Anyway, turn left and on he opposite side of the street, second floor, look for an orange a white sign with the name "CAMARKANA"...the last A is actually the russian 'd', and the name is pronounced 'SAMARKAND".

There were also a couple of Thai restaurants in Busan. At least one is still open.

If you don't know about it, it doesn't exist? Come on Dev, use your education!

While I can't direct you to a Thai restaurant in Daegu. There is a really go Vietnemese restaurant; it's SouthEast Asian at least. If memory serves me correctly it is to the east down the alley from Giordanos. If it isnt down that alley it is down one of the alleys to the East if you are facing Daegu station. They have a good peanut sauce so I hope that at least gives you a little fix.

I have also heard that they recently opened an Uzbek restaurant in the city.

Hope this will do and you enjoy a night out.

Well, I WAS right wasn't I? There is no proper Thai restaurant in Daegu. Mr. Eye just told us about one that closed. Sorry, but CLOSED doesn't count and a fusion Thai / Viet place doesn't count either.

Generally speaking, they don't - hence the reason for only 1 possible restaurant. The story changes with Japanese and Chinese food. There are lots of Japanese and Chinese restaurants.

About as adventurous as "most" Koreans get with international dining is Pizza Hut, OutBack and T.G.I. Fridays. Do a survey for yourself and see how many Koreans have tried Indian, Thai, and Mexican food. Really! C'mon! You're not talking about the average Korean.

So according to your brilliant computations, since i haven't tried Mongolian food, i must not like it ?

No need for a survey, my neurologically challenged friend.
As i already said, the few foreign restaurants that DO exist here in Daegu are packed at dinner time on any given evening... with maybe 2 or 3 whities in the mix. I've had to wait for tables more than once.

I could point out a few reasons why there aren't many foreign restaurants outside of seoul, but i'm afraid it would be a waste of time and end up going right over your pointed head.

Don't forget, your argument could go the other way too. People who haven't tried it could easily hate it. Maybe part of the reason why people haven't tried some of these cuisines is because from what they've heard of them, they believe they wouldn't like these foods. Word of mouth is the most powerful advertising tool around.

Also, Koreans like money as much as the next people. If there was really a market for these restaurants, they'd be all over Daegu. Daegu has 2.5 million people, but only 1 Thai restaurant. If Daegu people really like Thai food, as you say, well, there's a lucrative business opportunity for you.
