After reading all the great comments I got on my post about Koreans and dogs, I thought how great it would be to have a doggy picnic. I have mentioned it to a few other people and they seem pretty keen about it. The only problem is: Where can we meet with all of our dogs that we won't be asked to leave? If anyone has a suggestion, I would love to hear it. Sunday June 18th is a potential date. What does everyone think? |

I think it's a great idea. I know my dog could use a little socialization. She's losing all her "relating to other dogs" skills.
I take my dog for a walk every day up the mountain where I live. We occasionally see other dogs so I suppose it's OK. I have never seen any signs to the contrary that dogs are allowed. I let her run off the leash, and there are tons of trails of varying difficulty and many picnic spots. It's great on a sunny day, but it can get busy. I have had no problems with others, so far. It's in Anyang, about a 3-4,000 won taxi ride (depending on traffic) from the station.
There is also a small rotunda where you can set up a BBQ and grill meat if we can snag it before the other hikers do. It's right at the base of the trails. There is a small dirt field where I throw the ball for my dog right behind it. It's a really nice set-up. People leave their piles of bags here when they hike up the trails. Sometimes they have gatherings or festivals in this area, but most of the time it's free. There's a lot of space, and worst case scenario, we have a parking lot BBQ in front of the dorm where we live. (My b-friend and I work at an all boys school, which is the "gateway" to the mountain). There are also natural springs that run down the mountain. People travel from all over to bottle the water, and it makes for a refreshing sponge bath after hiking with the dogs.
I can make it the Sunday one week earlier, but we have a guest coming from the U.S. the weekend of the 18th, so will probably be doing the tourist thing in Seoul.
Let me know if you want to get together... |

I've seen an area along the Han River Park that people all had dogs. Can't remember the exact location, but somewhere between Banpo and Chamshil. Will check it out sometime in the future and get back to you. Unfortunately, my dog seems to be quite anti-social when it comes to other four-legged creatures. |

Of course you can come. Anyone that loves pets can come. I like the sound of the mountain that MOPTOP is talking about. It's sounds lovely. I am completely open so whenever people can make it, just let me know. I am game for any weekend. I am so glad that others think it's a good idea. Pass the word along to everyone you know. I think it could be a great day. |

Wow. I was really expecting the obvious joke by now. Well, I'm not gonna make it. Carry on. |

Great idea. We will try to make it. Can't wait to see the look on the faces of any Korean onlookers as they see a pack of dogs and foreigners coming at them! |

Gee, this sounds like fun! Too bad I'm too far south (and I'd be in Seattle round about that time anyway).
Maybe I'll try to arrange one here in Gwangju after I get back (late July).
Anyone Gwagnju-ites interested? |

I was thinking sometime in June. I originally thought maybe Sunday June 18th, but someone pm'd me and said they have company coming from the US then. So, they asked if maybe the 11th would do. Like I said, I am completely open on a date. Just let me know what works for everyone else. (I thought Sunday would be more convienent than Saturday for most people. Am I right on this one?) |
