Would you gladly partake in celebrations across the country if they won or have you been so irked by the nationalist hype that you would love see them choke under the pressure? |

Would love to see them do really well. Why not? I live here, this country gives me a good job, good stable situation, I like it. If you want them to fall flat on their faces then you are nothing but a real bitter loser. |

I agree, Jinju.
Back in England, the kinds of people I absolutely hated were the people who lived in England, studied in England, basically used England for its many great opportunities on offer, yet wanted the national team to do badly. Support your home country by all means (who could question that?) but to support anyone and everyone against England...well, fook off to that country and study there instead! I remember during Euro 2004 seeing a load of French and Spanish students all supporting Portugal against England in a really big game. Bunch of ponces.
I hope Korea do the best they can. It'll be a good experience for me to live in the country where a memorable WC run took place. Imagine they got to the semis again, watching the SF in a bar? That's something to enjoy, not moan about.
It gets to me when people say "we'll never hear the last of it if England win the World Cup". The only thing we never seem to hear the last of is that we'll never hear the last of it if England win the World Cup. Same goes for Korea, I feel. I've no time at all for some of the crap Koreans say about their country. But I don't want to stop them expressing themselves, experessing patriotism indeed (God forbid! How terrible!) and getting behind their team.
Good luck to 'em. I think they've a decent chance of finishing second in the group. Admittedly I'd be very nervous if they played England in the next round. I'd hate it if they beat us. |

Korea and England are in different halves of the draw, so they can't play each other until the semifinals or final. Or, to put that more realistically, Korea and England will not play each other in this World Cup. |

I see! Thanks. I thought I recalled the possibility of [Winner of England's group] vs [2nd in Korea's group] in the 2nd phase, but obviously not.
*reminds self of draw* |

I want the Korean team to do well if they play well...and as long as they don't do a Dokdo dance this time. My team has been 'Les Bleus' since Platini played for them (boy was 2002 a let down...but they sucked, so they deseved to go home early). |

I was here for 2002, loved the atmosphere when Korea won those big games. But I seriously can't see them even going to the second round this time. I could even see them not winning a single game. |

I hope they do well. Why hope they do badly? Thats just silly.
I think they have a shot at making the second round because their group is not that tough.
Then again, they could very well fail to make the second round.
Togo is beatable.
Switzerland is beatable but can be very tough.
France, well you never know but they should beat Korea.
This means Korea and France could come out of the group and that Switzerland will be the deciding team here.
I will root for them as Canada is out (well they are always out..except that one time...). I also like England, Japan and the US and hope these teams do well. |

Their fervor seems more akin to nationalism than patriotism.
Patriotism != nationalism.
Both patriotism and nationalism keep us wallowing in the mud, relying on economic disparity to perpetuate plutocratic paradigms.
When people finally wake from their slumber and toss patriotism, nationalism and a host of other compulsions to the side, perhaps we'll finally start getting somewhere.
Namaste. |

It works both ways though. When I lived in England the locals used to gang up on me when we were watching sporting events, and were REALLY sore losers if my country won over any other - it didn't even matter if it wasn't England.
Perhaps some of the behaviour was a reaction to the behaviour they received - which I know isn't always pleasant. Especially if you are French or Australian. |

I voted flat on their faces, only because I have money riding on a first round exit. They were pretty woeful against Senegal last night |

I'd like to rise above being so petty, but the fascist tripe that gets spouted by Korean soccer fans truly does get under my skin. I hope they crash and burn. If there is one group of supporters in the world in dier need of a lesson in humility, it's Korea. Death to nationalism, I say! |

I was here for WC 2002 and although not a footie fan was captivated by Korea and their fans. A great time was had by all.
I hope they do well - getting out of the first round would be that - but feel that away from their home fans they will be less sparkling.
Next choice would be England of course ..... but as others have here bemoaned, I am a fair weather fan. |
