I need some ideas. My husband doesn't like seafood or oily/cheesy food, btw. Please give me some creative ideas! He's not really into western staples like meat, a vegetable side (my mother seasoned everything with butter and salt, and he hates butter...), and a starch (he doesn't do rice pilaf, rice and beans, or mashed potatoes). I make Korean food more often than not, but when I make foreign food, I'm sick of eating staples like spaghettti (he doesn't like lasagne- too cheesy and heavy), chili (although he thinks it's similar to spaghetti), tacos, chicken creole, vegetable soup, and sandwiches. I recently made beef stoganoff, but that didn't go over well, either... I'm at a loss. Ideas, please!!! I'm too lazy to barbeque, btw...

I have the same problems with my fiance, he doesnt like anything! He's from El Salvador and I swear the only 'foreign food' he will eat is pasta and grilled chicken. he doesnt even like pizza. oh yeah, he likes steak and cheese and soup. It's unfortunate cause I love all kinds of exotic foods.

She likes

my macedonian shrimp pasta topped with crumbled feta cheese.
my angel hair-with-a-hint of lemon pasta.
my grilled spicy Italian sausages.
my Greek salads
Gyros (chicken) loves Tzaziki sauce and pita bread

She hated bagels when she first arrived back in 99, now she loves em.

She loves grilled salmon or any grilled fish, dipped in my greek lemon & olive oil with oregano sauce...she especially loves blackend fish.

She can fry a mean pork chop too.

She loves to eat fried calamari.

Then of course we have Japanese night and Indian night, we alternate those every other week.

It sounds like you are really trying to make him happy and that is sweet. Perhaps your husband could do the cooking! I have much admiration for a man who cooks for his lady. It is sexy, too! Very Happy

You need to sit down with him and write down the stuff he does like. Then browse the internet for recipes. Alternatively, you could have him accompany you to the supermarket and have him choose some foods.

My wife likes:

-spaghetti
-salmon steaks(broiled, grilled, or micro-waved - no good for your husband though)
-steaks with potatoes(you can always hold the butter) and steamed veggies(throw some go-chu jang on the brocolli - might make your husband happy Rolling Eyes

)
-pizza
-salads
-hamburgers
-sausages(back when we were actually able to find half-decent imported sausages in Boo-sahn Crying or Very sad

) with boiled or baked potato and veggies.
-chicken or beef stir-fry(maybe the rice will keep your beau happy?)
-tacos
-pork chops(her favourite when we were in Canada)

Sounds like he's a lot worse than me when it comes to being picky about which Korean foods to eat or not. At least I'll try and eat the boring rice and soup even if I'm sick of 'em. I feel a little sorry for you. Best of luck with your plight.

How about soups and stews?
My in laws enjoy salad and enjoy sanwiches a lot.
Have you tried making coleslaw? How does he feel about meatloaf?

I vote for telling him to cook something, but if that would disturb your domestic tranquility too much then I would give him some (Western) food magazine and cookbooks (the kind with glossy pictures work best) and tell him to pick out something that he thinks might be interesting to try. My x-wife wasn't Korean just picky. I cooked everyday for her for seven years, while we were married. It was easier for me because I was in school for a lot of that time and more importantly I loved cooking. We ate something new five days out of seven every week (no kidding!). But I wasn't about to dream up all this stuff myself. I made her make some of the decisions about the menu. That was the key. I'd sit her down wih some recipe books, food magazines, food calenders, etc. and make her choose some of the week's menu. It cut out a lot of stress for me. You will see what I mean when you try this strategy. Once we started this system, she almost never complained, and the few time she did I didn't recent it as much.

I'm lucky, my K-girlfriend isn't a particularly picky eater. The only Western foods I've seen her turn her nose up at are some of the stinkier French chesses.

Some things that have gone over particularly well:

I've some really good tried and true recipes if you'de like to try them. I wouldn't call my husband picky but he's pretty selective about what he eats; he loves my stuffed bell peppers, Filipino barbeque (Adobo), baked teriyaki salmon, potato salad, meaty chili, and sweet and sour chicken. I've also got a killer meatloaf recipe!!! PM me if you'de like to try em'!
