A school wants me to start at the end of July, but I don't receive my degree certificate until the middle of July meaning there is not enough time for a visa.
She says I can come over on a tourist visa and begin working straight away and then they will get the visa sorted whilst I'm working.
Is that all above board? Any problems that could happen?

No, it's not legal.

Yes, you will be fined, blacklisted and deported. (unless the boss has connections with immigration and well.. you know... )

It is NOT legal.

It is also NOT uncommon for this to occur.

If you decide to do it:
The recruiter gets paid
The school has their marketable item and
YOU take the risk.

Best guesstimate ... less than 25% get caught...

IF you get caught you MAY be:

fined or
jailed or
deported and/or
blacklisted at immigration.

The schools always say it's okay we know someone at immigration. It doesn't matter who the hell they know you'll still get in sh*t for it.

NEVER commence a position until the E-2 visa is in your passport no matter what a recruiter/employer claims. Period.

It is illegal.

You might not get busted for it but why take the chance?
