Hairloss can be prevented in a majority of males with Propecia. I think Propecia works by preventing the action of an enzyme that leads to hairloss. As well, there is strong evidence soy based products when ingested create a substance that acts in the same way as Propecia.

So, have him drink a glass of soy milk every day.

Baldness runs in my family, but my brother credits his full head of hair to never wearing a hat ...

F*ck soy.

You trying to make folks ill? ... especially the females?

The Truth About Soy

Propecia elevates AST/ALT levels, and since it gets metabolized almost exclusively in the liver, has been categorically shown to have deleterious effects on the liver - especially under life-long intake necessary for preventing resumption of hairloss.

So really, you trying to make folks ill?

Namaste.

Know it's all just a joke, but couldn't resist pointing out that I'm allergic to milk, so have been drinking soy since about...erm, 1985...but starting at 23, I'm probably the winner in the premature balding stakes. Laughing

Oh no! Come to think of it, by now everyone's figured out what my name means! My secret identity is revealed! Cool

Actually, this was shown to be incorrect about 5 years ago. It is now widely established that the genes are a mix from both sides of the family,l like most other things.

First I've heard of that... wouldn't have a link handy, would ya?

No joke mate.

Don't count on it. I've known folks who started at 16.

Namaste.

Sorry, I really don't have a link, and I am way to lazy to look for one. It's something I heard in a university class about 3 years ago.

From Hair.MD:
Quote:
Another interesting aspect of male hair loss has to do with the inheritance of the gene for baldness. Not that many years ago we were taught that genetic hair loss was sex linked and thereby transmitted from mother's side only. We have since learned that this was only the tip of the iceberg. Like a political investigation, as the research goes deeper, more and more players (in our case, chromosomes) are implicated. Although male pattern baldness is definitely transmitted on the X chromosome (XY is a male, XX is a female), there are numerous other chromosomes (humans have forty-six) that help determine the age of occurrence, rate and degree of hair loss. So just because your maternal grandfather is bald doesn't mean you will be also.

Namaste.

Yeah, I started around that age. I figure by the time I'm 50 I won't need clippers or anything anymore. I'll just sport the Picard look. It's not far off anyway.

periwinkle: Make him eat miyeokguk. Eating that three meals a day is supposed to reverse baldness. Ah, the magical wonders of Korean food. Rolling Eyes

Not all people would have the gene for turning soy into an anti-DHT enzyme, just as not everyone has a gene for post-childhood milk digestion.

Is DHT an enzyme? Whatever it is, blocking it's production has been on the drawing boards for years now and, unfortunately, not much has really worked so far. DHT also enlarges the prostate, so drug companies are furiously working on pills that would block it's production so as to prevent prostate enlargement. Prevening/reversing baldness would be a side benefit.

There is a pill that does just that on the market but it doesn't seem to be very effective. This balding male is keeping his fingers crossed in hopes something better comes along.

As far as exfoliation and scalp treatments and stress: that's a lot of bunk.
