I'm wondering, from those who have renewed contracts at public schools, when you did what.
My current contract ends 31 July. Today I had a little meeting with a school district representative, my VP, and my minder. The school administration is happy that I want to stay; the district rep. is happy that I want to stay; the administration is happy that the district rep. is happy; the district rep. is happy that the school administration is happy; I'm happy that everyone's so happy about me wanting to stay.
So now that everyone's done being happy, now what? Is there a deadline for when one side is supposed to give formal notice? When should I expect to see a contract? Do we just have to go to Immigration sometime before 31 July, turn in a contract, and sign some forms? |

Because I'm the first foreigner they've ever hired and they're absolutely clueless. So far I've had to tell them everything. When I started they thought my blue paper from immigration was my visa. They didn't even know why I had to make a visa run. My VP thought I was going to the Canadian embassey in Fukuoka and couldn't understand why I couldn't just go to Seoul - that's the level of ignorance I'm dealing with here.
(It's a great school to teach at - they're just genuinely clueless). |

Typically you can expect (or at least should expect a renewal contract about 30 days before your current ARC expires.
Sign the deal, make a trip to immigration with your:
a) new contract [new dates clearly indicated - duration of up to one year],
b) a copy of your schools registration,
c) your ARC, and
d) your passport.
The renewal can occur anytime in the LAST 30 days of your current contract/visa. In your specific case, during the month of July.
Immigration will NOT renew you before this time.
The process MUST be completed before your current ARC expires.
Again, typically, because you are entitled to a PAID VACATION (airfare and salary) to your home country during the last 2 weeks of your contract (upon renewal) you should take care of the paperwork between July 1 and 15. DON"T FORGET TO GET A NEW RE-ENTRY permit at the same time. Your old one will expire with your old visa dates.
