One of my students was handed a box on the street today from a man, and then the man ran away.
Inside was a kitten, who can't be more than a week or two old.
I took it home with me tonight so it didn't end up on the street (which is where the boy's parents would have probably put her).
She's taken to a little medicine dropper type bottle for milk - and she's starving. Not yet weened... she still is searching for her mother's nipple.
Does anyone know where I can find A - an animal shelter that will look after one so young, or B - a vet who will take her in?
My roommate is allergic, and we have a dog already, so keeping her isn't an option. I don't want her to end up on the street.
Help?? Ideas???
Thanks |

Thanks for the help guys - I walked around my neighbourhood with her this morning until I found a veterinary office. I explained what happened, and they examined her. Besides being far too young to be taken away, she is otherwise healthy. The veterinary office agreed to take her in and take care of her, and when she is old enough they said they would help her find a home. I'm quite relieved.
I watched as he put her in a cage with a nursing cat to see if the kitten would take to her. They seem optimistic, and I feel a little bit better about not having the poor thing put out on the street overnight. I feel it wouldn't have made it on its own.
Anyway, it's at the vets being looked after. If anyone wants to take a look at her let me know - they said sometimes it's hard to find homes for the kittens that aren't purebred. She's black and white, a little fluffy and has deep blue eyes. Super friendly and cuddly, especially considering people probably weren't too nice to her during her short life.
They have two other kittens there that were in the same situation.
Thanks again for the help - this board has come in quite handy. |

Good luck with that kitten. I've been hearing about this happening a lot lately.
One of my friends rescued a kitten hiding in the wheel well of his car. Is he keeping it? You better believe it.

I guess it has been happening a lot lately. The vet where I brought him had two others there already that were in the same situation. If my roommate weren't allergic I definitely would have kept it. It's hard not to become attached when you're up all night feeding it and holding it so it doesn't get lonely and cry for it's mother.
I wish I could have, but I'm glad I at least found a vet who took it in and will be able to look after it properly until it is old enough to find a home. |

you did well, seoulshakin. it's spring...i'm sure there are so many kittens being born now, who won't end up in such caring hands. i adopted my cat when he was 2, but he was found in a box on the street. he's a fat happy lion now who knows nothing but comfort. i bet ur kitten will find the same. |

Seoulshakin,
That kitty is lucky that you found it instead of someone who would have merely walked away. I wish more people were like you. Do not feel bad that you couldn't keep the kitty. All that you can do is help these animals the best you can. I know it is sad but you can't keep every animal you come across. You did a very nice thing. |
