Hi,
I'm new to this process, and I need experienced people's advice who have gone through this ordeal time and time again. I don't want to end up having hopes blown to proportions in trying to find the right teaching job, especially as a newbie. Obviously no job is perfect and fit for everyone's specifications, so I'm trying to learn from you guys of how the process works, and definitely get my head and expectations straight.
Today, I got my first phone call from a firm called "GIA Consulting," they represent ESLCareerBank.com or something like that.
They called at an inconvenient time, while I was on the road at night, which I forgave, but for the most part they just asked simple questions and let me know that they are interested in me.
I was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback on what I should expect on these phonecalls and what do they mean.
Thanks,
Mark7 |

Most of the phone calls you will get from a recruiter over here are simply to ascertain that you speak English and have no significant regional accent that is hard to for them to hear or comprehend.
They want to make sure that you are marketable and after they place you that THEY will have no complaints from your new boss because the new boss can't understand your flavor of English.
Do not confuse this with a real interview at home. The criteria are very different from what you would expect at a job interview in the west AND they are NOT looking out for your best interests. They are in business to introduce western college grads to ESL schools here. They want to make sure that the new boss doesn't want a refund after you get here. |
