How can one go about doing this?

Would a korean friend calling the local immigration office suffice?

The hagwon in question is unutterly awful, treat the staff like dogs, and as a result have had to fall back on more than two illegal teachers. One of whom is approximately 18 years old!!!

Cheers.

Would fines and deportation apply if they were US military and/or family members of?

What happens to the hagwons should they get caught? I take it immigration would definitely investigate if tipped off, right??

Oh, and possible rewards.... i like the sound of that!! Do i get more for more than one, or even two!!!

You should be able to get some answers to the working age issue for Korean Workers in the Labor Standards Act.

http://www.molab.go.kr/download/_20051220144304549.pdf

It may be best to move on to another job. You don't deserve to be treated poorly.

Following immigration penalties may apply:

passport confiscation
lengthy interrogations by Korean Immgration investigators
stop work order daily fines for tourist visa over stay, daily fines for working without a work visa
exit order
deportation
possible incarceration
re-entry ban

Why would you dob them in? Is it to make yourself feel good? Or is it for the monetary gains? Are they bothering you in some way? If so, how? Irts seems a tad mean spirited to just dob them in because you know the facts. Im sure if they are being especially dodgy, they'll get caught in the long run. If they don't, is there really any harm done? They are American army you say. Is this a personal attack on them or the actual school. Why bother yourself with unnessacary stress. Nark! Nobody admires narks.

There was a thread on this while back. Immigration has an entity within that deals with this same issue. Teachers can actually report any illegal activity and pocket a nice reward. That's what I remember reading anyway.

Never heard of anyone getting a reward.

So...you want to get people fired that are actually nothing to do with you?Let sleeping dogs lie.

It's easy to do...
http://www.immigration.go.kr/indeximmeng.html

See the top menu bar.... "PARTICIPATION"
then look for the link, "Report of Immigration Offense".

Click the link, fill in the form and stay away from the location when the brown stuff hits the fan.

Quick and easy. Immigration can figure out who is legal and who is not. You are not a police officer here... file the information and let the appropriate authorities take care of it. That is their job.

If it's not your workplace then it's perhaps preferable not to go meddling with it. You never know what the exact circumstances of each of the employees might be. You may ruin their lives. I don't agree with illegal teachers who undercut the quality legal teachers, but this sounds like a case of each individual running their own risks which they have to take responsibility for, not you. Only if you could be assured that they were physically harming the children they teach, then you might have claim for stepping in.

Why is the hagwon dodgy? How badly do they treat their staff? How do know about this?

If their lives would be ruined by a simple report and investigation by the appropriate authorities... then they shouldn't be there...

There are NO teachers here with a literal ball and chain around their ankle.

If there was, I would think that they would welcome a chance to be rescued and escape.

The risk you run when you break the rules is that you may be reported or found out... a risk that ALL criminals take... big crime or little crime... crime is crime...

do the crime... do the time.... It's not like they get 20 years to life in jail for it... the sentence is usually appropriate to the crime (as determined by the society that you are resident in).

If you don't like the time... don't do the crime.

It's none of your business. Stay out of it unless actual abuse is occurring. Otherwise, get a life. They aren't hurting you.

YES THEY ARE HURTING ME ...

IF THEY ARE ILLEGAL THEY ARE HURTING ME CAUSE WE ALL GET PAINTED WITH THE SAME BRUSH WHEN THE SH?T HITS THE FAN.

If you think something is not right it is your civil duty to report it...
let the authorities investigate and take the appropriate action.

If there is nothing untoward... then there is no problem and the investigation will last about 5 minutes....

BUST EM!!!
