The Thai place I visited in Taegu a while back was about a block away from a Burger King downtown near Daegu Dept. Store. Forget the name but it was newish looking, large and on the second floor.
When I ordered some very famous Thai foods (like lahp etc.) the waitress didn't have a clue what I was on about. The cook was Thai but told me he was not permitted to decide the menu as this was decided by the local manager who of course knows Thai food better, obviously. Hence why kimchi padh Thai and other 'Thai' food was available yet lahp and most other Thai dishes worth mentioning were not. Paying 15,000 won for a crap 'padh Thai' and having to drink Hite instead of Chang is not my idea of an 'authentic Thai dining experience.'
A lot less of this Korean-(insert country here) fusion food would be nice. It's not polite to demolish a truly great cuisine like the Thais have developed.
However there is (was?) a decent Thai place in Itaewon called Bangkok. Although very expensive at least the food was not bad and the manager and cook are Thai.
To end on a funny note many Koreans have told me they don't like Thai 'Coreander' because of get this, how it sounds, not how it tastes. Talk about absurd. |

Couldn't you get a Japanese beer like Asahi? Most of the upscale Chinese & Japanese restaurants in Daegu usually have Asahi Super Dry. That might have helped your dining experience. Corona would have gone well with the Thai food. Hite, in my opinion, is the worst beer in Korea. Overcarbonated and too light in taste. Cass & O.B. are not wonderful, but have a little bit of body. I don't think any Thai beer is avaliable in Korea. I'm a Singha Beer man myself though I agree that Chang is excellent too. |

| What's the story on the place opposite Itaewon Crew Pub in downtown Daegu? It says Thai food on the sign. I wanted to check it out earlier this week but it was closed. Anybody know the scoop? |

That's the place that Zulu rightfully bashed a few posts ago.
Even the server's were idiots. They all pushed each other into being the one to serve us. I haven't experienced that since the World Cup.
The one who was unlucky enough to end up serving us couldn't stop giggling and looking back at the rest of her coworkers.
I've never wanted to slap a girl until that night. |

Asahi is a fine beer but I was really hoping for a Chang (or Singha). These were not on the menu and Hite just seemed to match the quality of the reast of the meal so I just said to hell with it rather than pay the 8 or 9000 for the Japanese stuff.
I've seen Singha at Costco in Seoul on occasion. The Thai place I mentioned (Bangkok) also had it. You have to pay import prices, of course. No 90 baht beer 50 baht Thai meal outside Thailand I imagine.  |
