Hi, folks.

I have convinced some of my kindergarten students that in Canada we have girabbits, a kind of giraffe-rabbit hybrid creature made by scientists. They also bought the idea of carrot trees, which the girabbits feed on. Wink

The kids loved this silly idea; I often convince them of silly things, much as one of my wacky uncles did to me and my friends when we were tykes.

The problem is that the kids have asked (quite strongly) for proof, a sure sign of the waning of their charmingly natural innocence. God bless kids and their wide-open eyes and capacity for wonderment.

I figure that I'm SOL, because I haven't the faintest clue on how to use Photoshop to whip up a convincing fake of this unique beast (found, to my dismay, not to be so unique. I googled the term "girabbit" for the first time in telling the story for over 3 years, only to find that it's been used by J.R.R. Tolkien).

If anyone has a constructive suggestion about where I might find, request, create, or otherwise get a hold of a Photoshopped giraffe-rabbit hybrid (short of spending hours and hours learning how to use Photoshop), I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,

-Canucksaram

If you tell me which part is supposedly rabbit and which part is giraffe, I can try my hand at doing one up for you...I do a lot of work in PSP (digital photo editing and scrapbooking) and am always looking for a new challenge...

I'll see what I can come up with....do you want sort of a tall, spotted rabbit or a giraffe with fluffy bunny ears????

Shocked

Thank you both for your quick replies.

The worth1000.com pic site is nice.

As for what it should look like, I've sketched on the white board many times and each pic was like this: the girabbit has the forelegs of a giraffe, the hind legs of a rabbit (with a rabbit's cotton ball tail), a long neck, and a giraffe's head with rabbit ears. The snout is a bit foreshortened and more rounded that a true giraffe's, and the fur is spotted like a giraffe's coat.

After I told my kids about girabbits, I gave them a special homework assignment: to draw the kind of hybrid animal they'd design if they were scientists, and describe (using English) the diet, habits, and characteristics of their "cute monster animal." Needless to say, they were quite enthused about their homework, and had a great time coming up with things like drutterflies (dragon + butterfly), fdogs (frog + dog) , pogs (pig + dog), skunkodiles (skunk + crocodile) , elebras (elephant + zebra), and so on.

Well, I got you a basic giraffe with a rabbit's head, tail and small paws, but it will take me a bit longer to get you the above, and I'm on my way out now, so I'll have to get back to it tomorrow when I'm bored. Fun project for me, learning a few new tools and brushes as I go!
