The man who attacked opposition Grand National Party leader Park Geun-hye with a box cutter last week most likely acted alone, prosecution sources said.
Ji Choong-ho, a 50-year-old ex-convict, is accused of slashing the face of the GNP chairwoman with a box cutter last Saturday while she was canvassing for her party's Seoul mayoral candidate. He was arrested on charges including attempted murder. Park, who suffered an 11-centimeter-long gash on her right cheek, is recovering in hospital.
The joint police and prosecution investigation team has been scrutinizing Ji's bank accounts and phone records, but found no evidence suggesting his ties to political groups or any accomplices, they said.
The investigators have confirmed that Ji traveled alone by bus to the GNP's campaign rally in Sinchon, central Seoul, on the day of the attack. The team has been unable to discover who shouted the words "Kill her" which were caught on video because of the poor quality of the recording.
Investigators also discovered that Ji had previously slashed the face of a woman in 1984 with a razor blade.
