As an extension off another thread, vacation is rolling around soon.

We have 2 weeks, and will be flying direct into Bali, then over to Lombok & the Gilis, before flying out with a stop in Singapore before the return here.

Following the LP format, does anyone have some info about the following:

*Visas, Embassies & Border Crossings

*Travel Tips

*Moving About

*Scams and Warnings

*Gems, Highlights & Attractions

for these places?

We will be doing a LOT of partying, scuba diving (we know how to counterbalance those 2), sightseeing, Buddhist & Hindu temple meandering, massages (a lot of em), restauranting, girlie-watching, etc.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Regards,

Glen & Christina

Hey guys,

Ohhhh you're up for some fun times! I have done all of what you are about to do and I had the best time of my life!

Visa's and Embassies: You can get stamped when you get to Indonesia, get a 3 month tourist visa. You need to have at least 6 months in your passport, though. They are strict on that one. Learned the hard way Wink

Travel Tips: Not many. You can book all boats and buses easily there. The people are Uber friendly and speak decent english. You should bargain for everything, though. Ohhh and watch out for street money changers vs. the bank. They are serious scammers.

Tourist attractions: If you are on Bali you should visit Ubud. Great for temples and just an overall beautiful place. On Lombok there is a crazy Volcano you can hike. I can't remember the name, but I know it's close to the place you take the boat over to the gillies. Anyway, there is a new volcano growing inside it (check for the pics) Usually an overnighter trip. Hard hike, but soooo worth it. It was one of my fondest memories. If you want the name PM me and I'll find out.

Partying: Bali can go off, well it did when I was there, but that was pre-bombing. One club to be sure to go to is Double Six. Loads of fun, beautiful venue complete with pool and bungy jump and all the party favours you desire Wink
The gilies are good fun. They had the most memorable sign "Bloody Fukcing Fresh Mushrooms". You'll be sure to have a great time. I never dove there but heard awsome things about it. Tones of dive shops to choose from.

Singapore: Good for a day or two. Really not that exciting. About as interesting as any city can be. Out of all of South East Asia I would recommend Singapore the least, but worth seeing.

Hope that helps.
Have a wicked time.

was there in 2000, beaches on Bali are so-so, Kuta is overrated, Sanur is Ok, Ubud in the interior was great, spent like a week there

Also did Lombok and the Gili's, Gilis had the best beach, so loved the snorkeling there, Lombok was OK

getting around is easy on Bali taxis are everywhere so are I forget what the local transport is called but its cheap

getting to Lombok was a pain via bus then ferry, took the better part of a day, my advice is to grab a flight cheap and easy

visas were no problems used to be like 60 days on arrival for americans but I've heard they've cut it back and they may charge

HTH, btw if you have info on good places to stay in Pnom Penh and Luang Prabang I could use that, going to spend a couple of weeks wandering around that region before chilling on Samui for the better part of July
