I always laugh at people if something is physically wrong with them ...

You know what, that was gonna be a joke. But now that I think about it, I kinda do always chuckle when there's something wrong. Unless of course it is something huge like an amputation or birth defect. But a broken arm, spotty face ... they're always great for a laugh.

The chain of association goes like this:

red face-->soju face-->soju-->drinking-->haha

Any time drinking is alluded to, it's worth a giggle more often than not.

I wish people would stop asking me how much money I make. I wouldn't even ask my friends that question so why are complete strangers asking me? Well usually I end up telling them anyway because I'm guessing there are a lot of misconceptions as to how much we make and usually when I tell them they seem disappointed with their discovery. Then I ask the question back to them and get a bit of surprised mumbling before the conversation topic changes quickly.

I've had quite a few people ask me this, as well. I just say "enough" and that usually works after they realize I'm not going to get specific. Never thought of asking back--definitely gonna try it!

Sleepy in Seoul: Please tell me where you got those shirts made! I really want to get one made that says something like 매운 음식 먹을 수 있니?? or maybe 포크 필요 하세요? With a nice graphic of chopsticks, that would be a cool shirt. Are graphics possible to add on? With the first one, a pic of something that isn't even spicy, like maybe kimbap, would be perfect.

Please give me the lowdown!

Q.

Unfortunately, I had to have them screen-printed in Australia, on my way back home late last year. I couldn't find anywhere to have them done here.

All I had to do was to take a copy of what I wanted to have printed onto the shirts, and tell them what colours (shirt and printing) and style of shirt. After the initial contact, my approval of the style was done by email, so it's possible that they will do the entire deal over the phone and by email, if you have a credit card.

PM me if you want any more details.

AAAAGGH!

But I still hate it more from foreigners.

Oh no. The incredibly offensive, "Where are you from?" question. This is such a basic question. Listen to people on this thread. "I hate it when they assume I'm from Canada when I'm not. I hate it when they call me "Miguk-saram," when I'm not. But I also hate it if they ask me where I'm from." WTH?

Last week I had some moles surgically removed from my face, so scars are still visible. Aquaintance approaches me, stares at my face, points and says "Oh! What?" I tell her I've had moles removed. She says "Yes, I know, my coworker [a friend of mine] tell me". What the hell is going on with that?

Also, when I first arrived, I became very annoyed at what seemed like every Korean assuming I was American, so I had some shirts printed with:

Why are you asking, Two Dogs?

This was how it happened:

Taxi driver or other Korean person (for the millionth time), "미국? America? Canada?"
Me, sigh, thinking (for the millionth time), Wouldn't it be wonderful if I didn't have to give the same answer to the same question almost every day for years on end? "아니요. 나는 뉴질랜드 사람 입니다."
Taxi driver or other Korean person, "Ah, 뉴질랜드 number one!"
Me, "Yes, thank you."

Now, taxi driver or other Korean person (for the billionth time), "미국...", sees my shirt, laughs uncontrollably for a couple of minutes, then, "뉴질랜드 number one!"
Me, "Yes, thank you."

Okay, the reason I asked is that I figure you're starved for something. Great, you're not this or that, but to wear it on a shirt? Can't you stand on your own two legs as the man you are? Jeez, the day that I felt compelled to wear something like that would be a day that sucks. Regardless of where I came from.

That was my only point. KTF - have a good time! Rock on. You're doing a great job.
