Korea VS Usa ? who you support? |
Soccer is way down there on the list of sports for Americans.. and they aren't major contenders in soccer anyways.
Personally I hope it stays that way.
I don't want to see the U.S. go gung-ho over soccer. I don't think anyone in the world does. Do they? |

I'm not reading all 8 pages of this, so if somebody has said this before, I am reiterating for them:
As I see it, this is a win-win situation: I like the Korean team and Korea, so I will be cheering with them if they are doing well, and I really would love to see them go quite far.
BUT
If they lose, I will be jeering at 비and 윤도현 and laughing my arse off at my school's gym teachers who had our kids perform a cheering dance at the school the other day while sporting t-shirts which on the front say:
Be the Reds Again 2002!!
And in the back warn:
Don't's Touches Our Tok-Do!!!!
Can't lose. Just cannot lose. |

| Man you guys are paranoid. All they are doing is getting behind their team. Is it extreme? Well its pretty extreme but are you telling me it isnt so in other countries? One thing I like about this so called Korean nationalism is that unlike in other countries, it has never been taken to a level where outsiders are killed because if it. It never escalates into violence as it does with European fans. In the history of this country, this nationalism has never been the engine that drove genocide or colonization of other countries. *beep* and cry about it all you want, I bet your coutries have committed far greater sins in the name of your nationalism that Koreans and their Red Devils or 5 year old kids playing soccer against a German team. |
That's basically true but probably due to a question of military capacity to inflict a decisive military victory rather than lack of desire to do so, at least recently.
I was shocked when somebody showed me an article on Korean school teachers encouraging little kids to to hate Japan and America and to draw pictures of Koreans destroying Japan. Great 'eductaion' there, wouldn't you say? Hyper-nationalism starts small and moves on to bigger things which is why I don't like to see it anywhere. |

I was here in 2002 for the World Cup. I wore the shirt, scarf, hat, etc of an opposing team. I even sat in the stands with Koreans all around me, with a Korean girl with me, in opposiing colors. I was only met with friendly hellos. Now, YOU put on the colors of Germany's opponent and sit among the German fans and see if you make it out in one piece. |

If Korea finishes first in their group (I don't like the other teams in the group anyways) then I'll cheer for them to go to the semifinals (yaaaay), where Netherlands or Germany will clobber them.
If Korea finishes second as expected then they have no hope in hell, nor my support, in trying to go through Spain and Brazil. |

Don't forget the American women. They have one of the best teams in the world. |

Mr. Sue also has some trouble with Groups G and H.
That would be a pretty interesting development though...

If Korea finishes first in their group, I'll do a lot of things.
Turn up for the first day of second semester stark naked.
Sprout wings.
Have monkeys fly out of my butt.
Get struck by lightning. Several times. |

Indy...dude...be careful....
The scenario you are laughing off while highly unlikely to happen is still a possibility considering that...
Togo is a non entity until proven otherwise
France...you don't know which team will show up...the 1998 one or the 2002 one who failed to win a single game...
Switzerland...depends which team shows as well....they have been known to be tough but also atrocious sometimes.
For the record, I think Korea has a decent shot at making it to the second round as #2 in their group.
Taking the group is a long shot but you are putting it on the line there indy...on an online bopard of course.... |
