A (Korean) client was telling me the other day that I could vote if I'd been in Korea for three years, which seemed suspect to me. I've been here for about five years, though, and I'm on an F-2.
So how are you eligible to vote? I work myself into quite a state sometimes over Korean politics, but I wonder if I'm informed enough about the whole mess to actually vote. |

Im on an F5. If you get the package in the mail you are eligible. Just check your mailbox. However I dont think F2 holders are eligible. |

That should be fun for you when you go in to vote. I wonder if you'll get any strange reactions.
It would be funny to look some mean looking, disapproving ajoshi and hold up your card and say, "Yes. Me vote. And this is my beautiful Korean wife. She vote too." Then make out with her in front of everyone.

I assume you are up to speed on all the candidates and the issues at hand? I mean, democracy depends upon an educated populace, something that is rare even in a country where the language used is yours as well.
Vote responsibly or not at all. I realize you are super-stoked about your F5, but.... |

Hannara? That sounds Japanese...? I like the 36 year old guy (Seoul mayoral candidate) who wants to limit housing purchases- 1 apt. for 1 family. That way everyone can own an apt. in Seoul instead of wealthy landlords buying-up all the available housing and driving the prices up as a result. |

It sounds interesting being able to vote in a foreign country. Unfortuately I don't plan on staying long enough to go from F-2 to F-5.
Which party number is Hannara? |

Awww.. I only get to vote by proxy (girlfriend said she would vote the way I suggest)...
It has been tough to completely get informed but I think I have enough to make a relatively informed decision...
The added bonus was that I actually picked the party her family supports and won 'em over a bit (and I'll take every bit I can get). |

한나라당(Hananradang) or one country party which is officially called the Grand national party(GNP) is number 2. i would be voting for them as well as their positions on the west and North korea are more aligned with my own as Uri party(who are number 4) really need to be voted out. Only swept to power on their anti-american stance and as you can see, they had no direction in the economic or foreing affairs policies and now they are suffering. Good |

Theye NEVER had a positive platform. Their entire policy was based on anti americanism and a perverted and extreme version of the sunshine policy. Well, as we all can see, that policy is one big fat failure. Its time for the GNP to come in and make a stand againt the North. Im SO happy to be able to actually contribute to the ass kicking Uri is going to receive.
patchy seems curiously absent from this thread. I guess he cant vote:) |

I'm doing some cramming now...looks like I too will be able to vote. At least, according to the other thread. I haven't verified if it's true yet, but I'm doing the legwork just in case.
Of course, if I can't get a solid opinion about the issues, I won't vote, but I would like to! |
