Last week I got a letter from the Korean Tax Office stating I have to file my taxes online by June 1. I'm American, and I was under the impression that I only had to worry about filing my taxes in America.

Did anyone else get this letter? Any experience?

I don't know much about the Korean system, but in Australia you have to file a tax form if you are a citizen or any person residing in Australia and have earnt or received any form of payment. Have you earnt any money over and above the amount that you pay tax on through your E2 ? ( Interest , property ) If not, it might be worthwhile ringing them and explaining that to them to get a waiver.

Hmm. That's strange. Wonder why they singled you out?

Usually your hogwan does the filing for the korean tax system. One a year they may give you a refund or take additional payments... If they don't do it for you, then you have to do it or hire someone to do it for you.

I can do your American taxes. which you also have to file by June 15 for 2005 taxes. I would be unable to do your Korean taxes.

Best of Luck,

NK.
