Name your students after Dave's posters.
Kiwiboy Kim
Gord Kang
Shakuhachi Shin
PolychronicTimeGirl Choi
Peppermint Park (I like that one! Peppermint Park!)
If I had a class of students, they'd be named after objects around my office. LaserJet Lee. Swingline Bang. Extension Cord Hwang. Chisel Kim. Envelope Shim. Biscuit Wrapper Chang. Recharger Chun. |

I had so many students with off the wall names when I taught at a hagwon. For example ...
Legolas Aragorn Power Ranger Dinosaur (All one name)
KFC Lotteria Popeyes
Battle Cruiser
and my favorite ... Al Qaeda Edmond Steak

I just about cried when I read this post. Gooooold.
I do have a student who would rather be known by her Korean name, so she took the English name "Pig" in protest. It's sort of cute, so I use it and alternatively I call her "Penny." |

| I got to name some kindy kids once. I had a pair of twins and their cousin. The girl was Ali, the boy was Frazier, and the cousin was Big George. That was until the Korean teacher came along. |

Hi, my name is JacktheCat and I have a confession to make.
I once named two students Bert and Ernie.

| When I first arrived in Korea at my school there were 3 kids named Jesus. I don't know where there are now, but I thought that was strange. I name the new kids dodgeball style, blade, lazer, blazer I love it. |

Are you serious?? My sister is called Sophie, she is 16. At the time of her birth it was quite a 'modern' name. Seriously, have you ever met any old women called sophie? Esther, yes. Sophie, no.
|
Yes, I worked in a nursing home for a time, and there was a Sophie there. If you don't know old ladies named Sophia/Sophie, maybe hang out with old Italian and Greek ladies more often.
On the other hand, aside from French actress Sophie Marceau I don't know *of* any young girls/women with the name.

| Boy named Janus in one of my classes. I cringe when I call him Janice and he responds. Really it should be pronounced Jay-nus, as in the mythological god, or the Janus Project in the movie Judge Dredd. I will strive not to call him Janice. |

Ahhh...I get to quote myself:

Worked with a guy once who had a kid in his class that insisted on being called Soup. No matter how hard my friend tried to convince this 8 year-old that "soup" was not a name, the little urchin wouldn't budge. So, in an attempt to inflict some righteous mass-punishment on the kid's class and let the peer-pressure do the talking, my mate walked in the next day with an English menu I used as realia(realium?) and proceeded to christen the other little maggots with today's specials. Faster than it takes to fry fries there were, sitting with their little legs dangling above the floor: Fries, Hamburger, Salad, Lemon Pie, Meatloaf and Feta-Cheese Omlette.
Of course, it backfired: they loved it. They sang their names. They bragged about them. They got t-shirts made.("I'm with Soup") It was all I could do to keep the plague from spreading to my classes.
My mate, though, he decided to embrace his *beep*-up and started naming all of his classes through themes. I know there was a Star Wars class(Leia, Han, Chewie and Obi-Wan Kenobi); a Rooms of the House class(Kitchen, Study, Den, Foyer[French pronunciation] and the unfortunate Bathroom); and my personal favorite: the Gilligan's Island class which indeed had two students, both named The Professor.
But no name could ever really top Soup. |

In one class, Eddie Guerrero and Ray Mysterio (although "Ray" should be "Rey", I think). Oh yeah, another is Sean Michaels.
One girl, Aileen (A-LEEN) chose that name because one boy kept calling her "Olive" when her name was Olivia. Now he calls her "Alien". She hits him. I think he likes it (middle school).
It's funny how some students you just call them by their Korean names. |
