My girlfriend said to me 'If we don't make final four, people will think we're unlucky'.

I countered by saying 'If you make it through the first round, people will think you're lucky. Korea is not regarded as a great soccer country'.

Then she said 'They will say that we were just lucky'.

I said 'Yes, they already think that. If you don't make final four, Korea will not have the world's respect as a soccer team.'

I hope they make it thru the first round, so I can come back to Korea and see one game or so in the country.

Great 'eductaion' there, wouldn't you say? Hyper-nationalism starts small and moves on to bigger things which is why I don't like to see it anywhere.

WHERE did you see that????

I just completed a three week vacation in Korea/Japan. Without a doubt the hype in Korea for the World Cup is much much greater. It seemed like half the commericals and music videos on TV were dedicated to the 'Red Devils'. The Japanese team made the news when it was selected but other than that there really wasn't any World Cup hype.

I now wish I had taken my vacation when the tournament was actually taking place. The intensity is going to be unreal. It would be fun to be part of that atmosphere, win or lose.

The article is out there somewhere: but here are the pics. Scroll towards the end of the page for the East Asia map, the kicker: "Corea/Colony of Corea"

Not the exact article I saw but outlines some of the same stuff.

Sick of hearing about the World Cup already. The sooner it's over the better. Smile

Korea VS Usa ? who you support?

That's a tough one actually. I guess in Korea with Korean friends I'd be cheering on Korea, but I could be happy with any result. They're both sort of underdogs and I'm a sucker for the underdog in any competition.

Soccer is way down there on the list of sports for Americans.. and they aren't major contenders in soccer anyways.

Personally I hope it stays that way.

I don't want to see the U.S. go gung-ho over soccer. I don't think anyone in the world does. Do they?

Don't forget the American women. They have one of the best teams in the world.

I could care less about the women's world cup....but not by much.
