Good question, I will find out tomorrow. I think at least a week off for summer and winter breaks but I'm not sure.
Another question...What are the PROS and CONS of having an ASSISTANT Korean Teacher?
What are there job responsibilities or what should I expect if I have one versus if I don't? |
It varies widely. Legally, I believe, you are supposed to always have a Korean teacher in class. A good co-teacher can make a big difference, a disinterested one can be sending her kids the message -- whether intentionally or not -- that your class is not to be taken seriously. I would say make building good relationships with them a priority. |
Good point about the unknown/disinterest message.
One thing I may not have made clear in my original post is that the 2.6 - 2.7 million salary includes my housing allowance/rent which I already pay. So that's only 2.2 - 2.3 million Won(net) teaching 4-5 classes of 30 students each, spread out through 8 hours.
Does the Asst. make lesson plans? Without an Asst. I would be so alone, with the exception of all the swell people on this board. |
It's not a bad job...but why are you paying rent? In my public school job my school does that. As for lesson plans you can use the Gyeonggi-Do pre-made ones on the 'Net. I can provide the link if you want it.l |

My public school job is 10 months, no severance too. It doesn't pay quite as well as your offer, but I get six weeks of paid vacation, so I think that makes up for it.
In my case, my assistant teacher is there at all times and helps me plan lessons, which is especially necessary because the teacher's books are in Korean.
So in short: I took a job a lot like the one you're describing and love it! |
