OK I am moving to a bigger apt tomorrow across the gu. I just got off the phone with KT and my cable company, took me 10 minutes to arrange to get my services transferred tomorrow and they asked me what time they can come not this 8-6 crap in the us
also total transfer fees is 25,000 won. No way you can get this done in the states this fast and this cheap.
Reason I'm also so happy??? getting a bigger place and my so is coming back from the states, no more d/lding porn  |

Nice! I used to work with a guy that used to live in Thailand. He said the phone company told him it would take them about a year to install internet service in his apt.  He loved Thailand, but the inefficiency really irked him at times. |

I recently had a root cannal done. After complaining to a few teachers about my tooth ache (which was starting to keep me awake at night) one scheduled an appointment for that very day after school at 5pm. The labour cost next to nothing on my school's medical plan and, although I needed five appointments, they could always see me at the drop of a hat. Once we rescheduled an appointment for right after lunch at 2pm; the teacher who took me explained that we were high school teachers and both had to teach a class at 3pm, and they let me jump the queue and saw me straight away. In Canada they would have just told me to take a sick day and wait all afternoon. I ended up paying about W20,000 for labour and W200,000 for a large, gold cap.
When it comes to convenience, 95% of the time Korea rocks! |

Sorry, I'm straying from the topic a bit, but I wonder why they use gold- I mean, I know it's good quality and all, but I don't think you can get gold fillings in the states anymore. Don't know if that's true for Europe and Canada.... I think my dentist back home will be surprised that I have gold fillings!
Um, ok, this is morbid, but... If you are cremated, all that will remain will be dust and your gold fillings, right? Am I weird to have things like this cross my mind? =( |

They really seemed insistant on using gold. Since it's only for a rear molar that people can't see when I smile, I really don't care.
As for the cremation thing - wouldn't the gold melt? What would they do with it then? Grind it up into powder and mix it in with one's ashes? That would be cool. |

| I just had all 4 wisdom teeth out (in Vietnam). It cost $374. Back home (England) its double that. |

| i also just had a root canal done. they want to see me about getting a crown, but i thought that really wasn't necessary? i thought in the States they'd just give you a feeling, but here I think Korea tends to always do crowns. anyone know the details on that? |

I got mine done here for 20k!
Also I like that I can be referred to a specalist within days of seeing a GP for a minor health condition that would take me 6 months to a year to see in New Zealand. |

A crown vs a filling simply depends on the amount of damage done to your tooth. If the need for a root canal was caught early enough, there is usually a smaller amount of decay present in the tooth, which means you often only need a filling after the root canal. However, most people do need a crown put in, as generally the need for a root canal is only noticed when you get in severe enough pain to go to the dentist, at which time the decay is significant. That said, even if you don't have a large amount of decay, the removal of the root can sometimes pose difficulties (such as if it is not straight) and the dentist may need to remove a larger portion of the tooth to get to the root - which again, means you would need a crown.
(My sister is a dentist, and after an unfortunate accident which did serious damage to my jaw, I needed 7 root canals....so I know the ins and outs! I have some with fillings and some with crowns).

When I lived in Thailand, we requested a land-line telephone, and were told it would take 6 months!!!
Anyway, as the OP stated, the convenience of Korea just can't be beat. It's definitely one of the best things about living here |

KT has totally blown me away with their level of service. First, their English tech support people speak better English than any tech support service you get in North America. Second, they'll authorize a truck roll THAT DAY. When you're used to "well, can you be in your apartment all of September and just wait for our guy?" in North America, having a guy coming to your place within a couple hours is ... well there just aren't words to describe it.
Why the rest of Korea can't be like this is beyond me... put KT in charge of the airport and the subway. |
