Which of the following is most embarrassing to a Canadian:

1) The I Am Canadian Molson commercial -- proudly displaying a desperate insecurity and childish plea for recognition -- becoming a national phenomenon.

2) Seeing so many Maple Leafs on backpacks.

4) The fact that Canadians found Rick Mercer's Talking to Americans funny because it supposedly exposed American "ignorance," despite the fact that it was actually a sadly embarrassing commentary about how irrelevant and unimportant Canada is to Americans.

5) Barenaked Ladies/Tragically Hip

6) All of the above

Thanks for your help citizens of Canadia!

1, 2, and 3. 4 I've never seen, and I like the Hip and don't mind the Barenaked Ladies (although the fact that they're Canadian has nothing to do with it).

Anybody teach in Nunavit or the northern territories? I heard you can make some fat cash up there~

You could prob look the former on any website. You can make a lot of money up in the Northern Terriotories doing anything really not just teaching. Housing isn't great from what i've heard but it's common amongst people who want to get experience is go up there and teach for a while and the come back and get a teaching job in the provinces. You have to give up a lot (like having student expectations) but, that's life in some communitites in the North.

Yes, but what's really embarrassing is that the name 'Canadian' was given to a beer that tastes like perfume.

Are you Canadian? Whether you are or not, you don't really have a good grasp of the Canadian sense of humour. It was funny because it was funny. The fact that it exposed how irrelevant and unimportant Canada is to Americans is a part of why it was funny. So was seeing the extent of ignorance about Canada to some well educated Americans. And many of the things that Mercer came up with were hilarious ideas all to themselves, even without the Americans believing they were true.

Edit to add: Didn't Jay Leno or another talk show host have his own version -- talking to American teachers?

Well, some Americans were obviously playing along, but Bush certainly wasn't when Rick Mercer offered him the support of Prime Minister Poutine , and he accepted. Laughing

...guess they're cool if you like to wear Hemp stripped ponchos and your best class is Hackie Sack 101....also enjoyable after you've had 3 Tim's Triple Triples and a few hits to wash down your beansprout sandwich...

Nobody drinks a Triple Triple and eats beansprout sandwiches. We have our Double Doubles with a Boston Cream or a Honey Cruler. And our national anthem is in fact Snowbird (it's about snow, or whatever). It was a difficult choice to make. 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' had a lot going for it (it's about Americans dying) and many Canadians were already convinced that Na Na Hey Hey was the national anthem (the Canadian government scratched that one because it's an American song). Wink

I'm a grad of the Class of '90. How about you?

By the way, I miss hanging at the old Dispensary Pub at Queen Street and Grafton (underneath the Cow's Ice Cream Shop). Hanging out in Kinross was great, too, due to the hamlet's aesthetic appeal (family ties).

Straight up, Islander: The Island is so beautiful. One can not find a more appealing looking place in Canada for sure.

Dude, where are you from on The Isle? She's a great lookin' place, eh?!

Cheers, Islander!

I agree. PEI is beautiful, but Cape Breton is a land all on its own, and sometimes, others from Nova Scotia deny its a part of the province. Maybe we're jealous...

I'm from the valley, where a few of NS's "gems" are found....(this can be taken both sarcastically, and at face value).

Too bad you feel like you stepped in the movie Deliverance when you're there. Wink

Actually, one of my friends from Cape Breton used to tell us about all the stupid questions that tourists would ask him when he worked at his aunts souvernir shop ("What do you do for fun around here?". "We watch TV", he replied. "You have TV over here? How do you get the electricity?". With a straight face, he replied "We have a transformer hooked up to a bike. We take turns pedalling.")

Cape Breton is one of the must see places in Canada. I plan on going there this summer. Haven't been there in ages... and I'm from the Maritimes.

Questions:

1. Why didn't anybody go to jail at the end of the season this year?
2. Why the hell were there only six episodes?

If you're Canadian, you know what I'm talking about.

I don't know. My guess is that it is and the story will continue in the movie. Luckily, I'll be home to see it.
