Anyone know where to get hold of this stuff in Seoul. I know a place in Itaewon sells it, but it's not the best of stuff and ridiculously over-priced - it'd be cheaper to mail order it from the states. Cheers in advance.

You can get a big 6lb bucket of Prorated brand Whey protein at Costco for 39,000 won.

Next best option is to head to Namdeamun Market and look for the foreign goods market (most of which come off the military bases). Look for a set of stairs going underground and you've found it. Lots of dealers selling proteins, creatine... You haggle with them on the price. You should be able to get prices like a 5lb bucket of Prolab whey for 40,000 ~ 50,000 won.

But watch out for expiry dates! I've heard that some dealers don't throw out old product.

Seriously, I suggest you check out www.maxpowershop.com.

It's a Korean run internet shopping service operated outta L.A., they have everything for super cheap, they only take 5-6 days for shipping, and shipping is only 10,000 won. A buddy of mine ordered, like, 40 lbs of protein the other day and still only had to pay 10,000 for delivery.

I found it through another (older) thread on this site, and wouldn't buy it any other way now (along with some other friends)... You pay by bank deposit, and it's pretty easy to fill out the form; just get a Korean friend to help. Getting 'em to deliver it to your workplace is probably most convenient.

Anyways, I've got nothing but the best things to say about their service. (By the way, the best deal on there is definitely the 10 lb. bags of ON Gold Standard Whey Protein... Order a couple bags and the shipping charge really does become insignificant!)

You should be careful buying certain brands of whey protien.. some have aspartame, which is not good for your health.. There are two brands at costco, one brand (i cant remember the name) has aspartame or splenda.. however, the weider brand is more expensive but doesnt have aspartame or splenda in it..

What is aspartame or splenda? Its an artificial sweetener. Of the two however, splenda seems to be less harmful according to numerous clinical studies.. But U be the judge.. i personally use Weider products.. more expensive but safer.

Check it out here: 1 of many sites

There seems to be a lot more negative issues regarding aspartame than positive.. however u can be the judge.

If you're worried about Aspartame, buy Prolab. Tastes great, doesn't clump up when you mix it with a spoon and is frequently cheaper than the other brands. What else do you want?

I am currently using ProRated brand from Costco. Seems okay. Has some kind of artificail sweetener, but doesn't say Aspartame. However, it could be Aspartame hiding behind another name. I should really check it out.

I agree with you. Aspartame should be avoided at all costs.

Avoid MuscleTech brand. They use Aspartame.

Here is an alternative to buyin soy protien.. If you have just whey protient, thats fine.. all u gotta do is buy some TOFU ( comes in blocks) and cut a few chunks of it, and then throw it into a blender with the whey protient, some frozen mixed fruit (buy at costco) and there u go.. Just make sure you blend it right..

Here is what i do:

1/2 cup of frozen strawberries & blueberries
1 1/2 cup of low fat milk
1/2 cup whey protein
1/2 cup tofu
1 tsp creatine
1 tsp glutamine

serve and enjoy!!! tastes great.. tofu is flavorless, so no worries there..

Blend for 30 seconds and serve.. i use frozen fruit because it makes the shake a little thick, like a smoothy..

I'd give you a receipe for making your own protein bars.. i use to make them back home.. but it takes waaaayyy too much effort to make here.

In Pusan it's Kukjeh Market, near the International Ferry terminal. It's a very famous market, asking for directions everyone will know what you're talking about. A couple of stalls have a huge selection, and you can haggle a few thousand won like at Namdemun. Kukjeh is the southern/Pusan equivalent of Seoul's Namdeumun.

I was curious about soy protein because I'm lactose intolerant. Are there any soy proteins out there that pack as much of a wallop as whey does? Most of them seem to be half or a third as protein packed as whey.

Soy isn't all thgat great for you.. If your a men stay away from it.. There are lots of whey proteins that have very little lactose or no lactose.. I am lactose intolerant and I have no probs with whey.. You can always get Protein powder based of egg whites.
