| are you at? The wife and I learned to read from a guy in our building. Very nice young lad. We haven't taken any course but can get around just fine and understand basic Korean. I would say we are middle beginners...maybe close to high beginners. Everything else we learned through our students, friends, etc. |

| I clicked high beginner, but in reality I am probably low intermediate. I understand almost everything I understand in intermediate level books, but my listening is still not up to an intermediate level. |

I've done about 200 hours of courses at Seoul National University.
I think I'm a middle beginner. I can do the basic stuff like order pizza, get after service for my aircon, give and ask for directions, got the present, future and past tenses, and carry on a conversation with a new person for about 5-10 minutes if the topics aren't too hard.
In theory I have no problem with using different levels of speech but in practice I have problems... just stick to yo.
But the more I learn the less I know. |

I'd say pretty much the same for me. I made up some flyers to advertise for a language exchange, though, which I'm going to try to do every day and hopefully brush up my listening and reading. Just need to stop procrastinating and go post them!
By the way, here's a link, for anyone interested, to an online intermediate Korean course. It's pretty awesome.
http://www.lsa.umich.edu/asian/korean/intermediate/
It has grammar explanations, recorded speech, and reading passages with new vocabular word definitions embedded into the reading. Really nice site.

I picked middle-beginner. I know how to chit chit a bit about where I'm from, how long I've been here, what I'm doing, and what I like. I can use a few different grammatical forms and levels of "respect" but I struggle with simple things like past tense and comparative. My vocab is about 400 words, I guess.
I've learned by self-study over a period of 20 months or so. This is too slow for my liking, so I've recruited a college student to school me harshly for the next month, 3 times a week. Soon I'll be mouthing off more effectively to lewd taxi drivers and chatting with small children! Assa! |

Actually that site doesn't seem so hard for me either.
Just out of interest is anyone interested in forming a group to study for the KLPT. I would like to take one before I leave Korea and I'm far more motivated when I study with someone. |

Although, I would be interested in doing this, I just don't have the time. I spend a lot of my time studying Chinese, and I don't have a lot of free time left over. |

| I don't really care about taking the KLPT but I'm not against a study group. It would be fun to hang out with other foreigners and practise speaking with each other in Korean. We could have a no-English rule, and if anyone uses English they have to stand against the wall and hold their book over their head for 10 minutes while the other students laugh and point. |
