I'm confused....I thought that if you loved (or at least pretended to love....errr....or showed absolutely no animosity to......) terrorist-enabling cultures enough, you'd be immune from their primordial hatred.........

TORONTO (Reuters) - A group of Canadian residents arrested in coordinated raids across the Toronto area for "terrorism-related offenses" had planned to blow up targets around southern Ontario, Canadian police said on Saturday.
Mike McDonnell, assistant commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said the group had acquired three tonnes of ammonium nitrate -- or three times the amount used in the 1995 bombing in Oklahoma City -- as they sought to "create explosive devices". Police said they had arrested 12 adults and five young people.
"This group posed a real and serious threat," McDonnell said. "It had the capacity and intent to carry out attacks. Our investigation and arrests prevented the assembly of any bombs and the attacks being carried out."

the sideline isn't all it's cracked up to be......and yes, I know, Canada has been active in Afghanistan......
I wonder if this is why some would target it? And if so...what will Canada's response be? |

Bin Ladin had targeted Canada before Canada sent troops to Afghanistan! Glad the Canadian police caught these thugs before they could murder anyone. There are bad people in the world!! |

I'm sorry but when did Bin Ladin threaten Canada before its involvement in Afghanistan?
Or are you just pulling this comment out of your azz?
From what I know, Canada was only specifically targeted once it sent troops to Afghanistan a few months after 9/11. |

TORONTO, Ontario (CNN) -- Canadian police on Saturday said they have prevented a major al Qaeda-inspired terror plot to attack targets in southern Ontario.
Twelve adults and five young people were arrested, authorities said.
"This group took steps to acquire three tons of ammonium nitrate and other components necessary to create explosive devices," said Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Mike McDonell in a news conference.
"To put this in context, the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people took one ton of ammonium nitrate." |

Had it occurred, the Canadian response to thousands of its citizens dead would have been a National Day of Learning, to explain the differences between the failed American Melting Pot and the thriving, successful Canadian Mosaic. It's a peaceful nation, in case you hadn't heard from every Canadian you've ever met.
Really...when's the last time you heard a murderous dictator say "We'd better not, or the Canadians might admonish us with a terse letter to the UN."
Homegrown terrorism is a reality throughout the West. The groups of disaffected, poor, radical Muslims that are plotting and killing in Western European countries also exist in Canada and America. Their sympathies and loyalties lie with their religion, not with the countries that gave them an opportunity at a better life.
Canadian intelligence itself professes that "Canada has everything for the discriminating terrorist," and then says that there are currently over 50 terrorists organizations operating within its borders. The immigration policies make it possible for known terrorists like Mahmoud Mohammed to game the court system and stay in the country for 20+ years despite his conviction and 17 years in prison for attacking an airliner in Athens. Not to mention Canada's long love affair with Hezbollah.
Terrorists exploit weaknesses, and Canada is full of them:
"Fauzi Ayub, a genuine Hezbollah terrorist, didn't even have to lie to get into Canada. In the 1980s, Hezbollah sent Ayub to Romania to hijack an Iraqi airliner. But Ayub was arrested before he could carry out his assignment, leaving it to a second group to execute this terrorist act, in which 62 people died when the plane crashed.
After Romania released him, Ayub came to Canada in the late 1980s with his family, but went to Israel in 2001 to foment terrorist attacks there. He now sits in an Israeli prison, accused of belonging to an elite Hezbollah unit. And when asked in an Israeli court why he didn't tell the Canadian authorities about his terrorist past in Romania, he honestly replied: "They didn't ask me."
It's only a matter of time. |

It's a very big deal because all 17 of the men arrested were Canadians, not people who came to Canada to commit terror attacks. Meaning there are home grown terrorists plotting attacks against their own country. There is a large Arab and Muslim population in Toronto, so they are all suspect now in the eyes of ordinary Canadians |
One thing that I remember quite distinctly in the immediate post-9/11 period in the states, were a horde of self-righteous Canadians here on Dave's regularly lecturing Americans about how disgusted they were at the racial profiling of Arabs that occured during that period. "We treat everyone equally here in multi-cultural Canada!"
Now, according to the Star, part of the motivation behind these plans for attacking Toronto was the racial profiling of Muslims by the CSIS.
Oh how the worm has turned. |

And what does the fact that we lack a reputation for racism and elitism prove about the reality of life in Canada? It might just prove that most people outside of Canada don't know what's going on in Ontario.

KINGSTON, ONT. - Kingston police stop a disproportionate number of young black and aboriginal men, according to findings released on Thursday from the first racial profiling study done in Canada.
Kingston, Ontario.
The report said police in this mostly white eastern Ontario city were 3.7 times as likely to stop a black person as a Caucasian, and 1.4 times more likely to stop an aboriginal than a white person

Anyway, stick that on your backpack and wear it with pride. |
