My tan!!!! I have been in Korea for 2 years and haven't tanned. I was white as can be. I can't stand it, so today I went onto the roof of our apartment and just spread out. It was great. I just took a shower and looked in the mirror and I am a nice mix of red and tan. mmmmmm...phew...it's nice to be back. Thank goodness for the summer. I didn't for the past two years. Dunno, why...just never got to it. Now...I must do it at least once a week.
Just grab your mp3 player...a towel...a pillow...and get to the roof!!!!! 30min. on one side and 30min. on the other did the trick!!!!! |

Nope. Most Koreans just aren't into the tanning. I have had them tell me they are jealous of my creamy white skin. They usually like the pale skin look. Just look at all the whitening products around. Even though I am already white I use whitening stuff, too. A few Koreans do like tanning though. I've been thinking of getting one of those airbrush tans, but since the Koreans always say how much they like my white skin, I don't know if I should. |

I better go to Korea. I was so humiliated in junior high by the taunting I got over my fair skin in California that I sat in the sun until my skin blistered. I still have scars to prove it. |

Exactly my point. I don't want to worry about that kind of thing anymore, so with my history I avoid tanning like the plague.
I still feel a bit embarrassed over my ghostliness sometimes but moving to a country where most people are dark skinned and fascinated by my exotic otherness rather than repulsed by it has helped my self-esteem quite a bit. That's not the best reason to live here, of course, but it's a small perk.
I take whatever I can get. |

In high school other girls would say to me" You're so white, why don't you go to the tanning bed? I didn't want to get into a cancer coffin. |

Smart girl.
I was stupid back then and I fully admit it. I snapped out of it by highschool though and just endured the taunting - from my own family even. It's not like people had never heard of skin cancer back then. I don't know why they continue to worship tans even to this day. |

woman! just how white are you????
its bs though, and pretty rude. youd never hear people be all "oh my god, you're sooo dark, use some whitener" as it is bad to offend the brown man.
it must be a pain though, as going to beaches and such is a blast. how do you manage? |

I agree that it's really rude to make comments about people's skin color, and it's not like I'm ridiculously abnormal or anything. I have a red-head complexion even though my hair has faded to a tamer brown over the years. The funny thing is I got teased a lot in California, but people in India have NEVER mentioned it to me - not even to say something nice. They just don't mention it one way or the other and I always find that really amazing. Unfortunately some people here do smear whitening creams into their own skin, which I find very sad.
And yes it is a pain trying to avoid the sun - big time, especially since I love the beach. People just don't get my aversion to tanning, but I'm telling you that those scars left me a bit traumatised and I really do value my skin's health. |

Seeing as you're a man, and have never once denied this when I point it out, you should probably stay away from the whitener, it's a bad look... |

The next time you can't walk her home, offer to put her in a box and post her there.
That seems like a fair compromise. |
