				| Now, I realize that long hair is generally frowned upon, but it was never a problem for me in Madrid. However, I realize that Spain and Korea are two very different cultures. Anyway, I was wondering what the chances of a male with a pony tale getting a job are. Or should I just cut my gorgeous locks? Thanks again for any info.
Oh yeah, if/when I get it cut it will look like it did back in May, i.e. in the following picture.

				| Picture doesn't work. However, I've seen a few guys with long hair, even some Koreans. It's not popular, but, as the saying goes regarding hagwons that won't hire non-whites, if they don't hire you because of appearance, that means you probably don't want to work for them anyway.
I'll point out also that everyone hates my haircut. It's shaven down almost to the scalp, with the 2nd lowest possible blade guard, all the way around. This haircut is generally only worn by Buddhist monks or teenage kids in protest of something. But, it hasn't been a problem as far as finding a job.

Tell me about Madrid. Do you teach English there?

				| The pic doesn't work eh? That's strange as I can see it on my PC. No matter. Here is the link: http://images.kodakgallery.com/photos1856/1/8/74/43/22/2/222437408106_0_ALB.jpg

First off, thanks a bunch for your thoughts/opinions. They are greatly appreciated. Now, as for Spain, unfortunately I no longer live there. I spent almost 3 years teaching English in Madrid, but I never could make quite enough money. One problem is that I'm a yank and not a Brit, so my flights "home" were quite costly. However, I would recommend Madrid to anyone. I hope that someday I can live in Madrid again. It is an amazing place to live, in my humble opinion.

				| As is typical of most countries, the only person that care about how long a guy's hair is...is the guy. It's hair. Whatever. | |

Yeah, I'm really interested in living in Spain. Did you need a CELTA to teach there?

The minimum requirement for a good school in a popular EFL destination like Spain will be either a CELTA or Trinity Cert.

				| Speaking from experience, long hair doesn't seem to interfere with my getting a job, or my teaching on the job. Granted, I work in a hagwon where casual attire is permitted. But as far as hagwons go, it's really quite nice and in a good spot in Busan.
A friend was working here, who shaved his head smooth with a razor. Seriously, he got a lot more attention for his lack of hair than I ever did for my long hair. Students called him Bachbaggi teacher, and the director rubbed his head in front of a large number of parents, whereas I have never been given a nickname related to my hair or have my head touched inappropriately.

 Good luck

				| Thanks for all the input about the hair guys.
As far as Spain and teaching without a CELTA goes, I did it. Then again, I taught without a visa either. When I went to Madrid I had no teaching experience, no qualifications and no visa. However, my cousin had lived and worked their for almost 10 years so he knew of a cmpany that would hire me. The pay was horrible (11-15 euro an hour) but after rougghly a year and a half I worked for two other companies which payed (18-23 euro an hour).

That being said, it is hard to make a decent salary in Madrid. There is little to no work in July, no work in August and December/January are difficult months as well. If you are a teacher with two or three years experience I guess you could make about 1200-1300 euro a month, if you're lucky (but during the above mentioned months your salary would most likely be much, much lower).

All in all, I think Madrid is an awesome city but I just couldn't make it work. The main reason was the fact that I was denied my application for residency when I applied under the amnesty. However, all of my friends have EU passports and even they had a hard time making decent money.

If you want any specifics on housing/cost of living feel free to email me. I am no longer in Madrid but I have about five or six friends who still call it home.

				| Here is a hint. If you have to ask about it then you probably do need a haircut. If it looks neat and tidy then it is okay, but if you just can't be bothered to take care of it, then cut it.
Note: It is easier to get a good job if you look professional. Long hair on a guy usually doesn't look professional unless you are in the entertainment industry.

 Same with me.

Korea, in general, is a conformist country and anything outside the norm is going to be frowned upon.

That said, everytime I turn on the TV it's another Korean boy band with Final Fantasy haircuts, i.e. long, mullet things spiked out in every direction and bleached, streaked and oranged like crazy. Not saying schools are necessarily okay with that sort of haircut, but Koraens are certainly used to seeing men with long hair.
