Well it seems the wife now regrets the PMP I bought because she didn't know some of them come with navigation. So I'm back in the market for a PMP with navigation (as well as being able to watch downloaded stuff that I transfer on it, etc.) The only one that I've seen that comes to mind is the I-station V43 but man that is one pricey SOB. I was hoping for around 500 000 won but that beast goes anywhere from 580-650 000 won. Any other suggestions? Thanks in adance.....................

Well, I don't know of other PMP's with Navigation apart from the V43. Which I bought and feel is worth every penny of the 600,000 won.

I got the 30GB Navi model.

Using the navi makes every journey so much easier. You can even simply type in the phone number of any restaurant etc and it will lead you right there. Type in the building number of anyone's home in Korea and you'll get there no problem.

When you consider all the other things the V43 does.........it starts sounding cheap!!

Yeah I want a V43 too, but taking Korean classes at Sogang and the new computer I'm planning on buying means I have no money left for toys.

Hey Eamo, thanks for posting so quickly. One thing I always wondered about the navigation part, do you have to subscribe to get it to work? Or does it just do the navigation part without a subscription to any service? Also does it tell you by voice as well or just show you on the screen? These are questions I need answered so I can convince the wife. Yeah I definitely like the look of it and it does so much it puts my Centrix model to shame. Any idea what internet site would be the cheapest for getting it online? The wife would prefer to get it online so we can do like 6 month payments or something like that.

No subscription needed. It just works out of the box. I guess Digital Cube (the parent company) have a deal with the satellite people.

It uses a voice. There are 3 different modes to view the screen in (3D etc) but they are all accompanied by voice. She can get a little irritating sometimes if you decide to differ from the route and she insists you U-turn for a few minutes before the sat/nav realises the change and plans a new route.

Of course, the cables are provided to connect the V43 to your car stereo so you can play MP3's from the V43 while you're driving. Even when Sat/Nav is on. I like to stay in the car sometimes and watch a movie while my wife does some tedious shopping!!

websites.....

My wife bought mine from here in April. She searched a lot of sites but said CJmall was the cheapest.

It supports, most importantly, AVI. 90 percent of what I download is in AVI. It also supports WMV, DIVX, MPEG and anything else I throw at it. It hasn't refused an audio or video file yet.

If you should need to transcode any other formats there is a software program bundled with the V43 called Orange. Haven't needed to use it yet of course.

Here's the English website which will answer all your questions.

Oh, if you buy a V43 make sure to invest in the optional leather pouch. The cheap pouch supplied free is tacky and useless.

Yeah. True.

One resistor on the circut board did not meet Korean government regulations for microwave omissions or electrical radiation or something. Only by a very small amount.

So, I-station had to do a recall. Go to one of their service centers and they will replace the whole circut board for free. A bit of hassle but the good thing is that the new AMD chip on the motherboard is now running at 500mhz instead of the previous 400mhz. So it's actually a free upgrade!!!

New V43's will already have the new circut board.

That is good to know. Any way of knowing for sure that I am getting
the new circuit board with a new machine? I don't really trust sales people to give me an honest answer

I'm not sure how you could check that out. Maybe the box will show a manufacture date? Any V43 made after April 2006 should have the new circut board.

Also, if the firmware pre-installed on the V43 is up-to-date then the board should also be the new one. You can check the firmware version in the menu.

powersettings-
version-

the latest is 2.0.2.....

Well the wife went ahead and ordered it online and we ordered the Istation V43 full package. Comes with 30 gb, navigation, touch screen, gamepad (could care less about that, can't imagine what games would play on it) extra battery, cradle and charger. I'm sure I'll be pretty happy overall. Hopefully it will be one of the newer ones but I'll make sure and check to see if it needs to get that new piece. Thanks for everyones help.
