Oooh, so someone who might smoke a little pot in their own country (which in Canada, minor posession is no longer criminally prosecuted) comes to a country with crypto-facist drug laws and endemic alcoholism and prostitution.
So who's the role-model to the what now?
As to the original post, your friend is fine. However, if he gets into any sort of trouble while in Korea and Cops decide to dip his urine he'll be in trouble. Possession in Korea = Having trace amounts in your system, regardless of what jurisdiction those drugs got into your system. |

I'm not an expert but I don't think any drugs stay in the system for very long. You would need to be taking the poo up until you got on the plane to have a worry about being caught in a roundup here at some suspected drug taking site here in Korea on the first night in Korea.
Anyway sometimes here after watching a site and seeing that people are taking drugs on a regular basis a raid can be carried out and blood tested. I'd say that about 3 or 4 raids at most would happen a year at places where foreign teachers hang out.
As stated only goverment jobs along with some universities want a medical and police clearance before employing a person. |

Actually, even light smokers can have traces found in urine for up to a year. THC, the main active ingredient found in pot, is stored in body fat. This means that the amount of fat on a person is directly related to how long it takes for the body to metabolize remaining traces out of a system. Other factors include, but are not limited to: genetic disposition (eg. speed of metabolism), and behavioral variabilities such as exercise and diet.
For example: Exercising for a couple of weeks before testing -- especially following long periods of lethargy -- will speed up the metabolism, resulting in more calories being burned. This will lead to increased amounts of THC filtering through the kidneys, resulting in higher chances of detection in urine samples.
If your friend smoked one joint, has an average metabolism, and is not considered overweight, then he would most likely pass testing after about three months. If he is a daily smoker, has a slow metabolism, and carries a lot of body fat, then he may require a year before passing a test. There are just too many variables, however, to know for sure.
I, myself, don't smoke. But years of experience in social work has taught me that the war on drugs would be better spent combating alcohol than pot. It's pretty sad that a person often does less time in prison for beating up a spouse than for smoking a joint. Smoking pot is definitely not healthy. But it is also definitely not (or should not be considered) criminal behavior.
PS
I'm not sure why the words diet and overweight are highlighted as links. I had nothing to do with this. I do not in any way endorse any product or service related to these links. |

I've passed drug tests a little less than two weeks after stopping smoking pot, twice. I am really thin with a high matabolism, though.
Legal alcohol and illegal marijuana is illogical. Role model, maybe not, but I pay my child support, I don't hurt people, I pick up litter when in the great outdoors, and I got out of blue collar work by going back to college and finishing my degree. I'm not looking to smoke here in Korea because this is a foreign country and it's stupid to go looking for trouble, but impugning the character of people who do choose to smoke isn't nice, isn't logical, and shows a lot of, yes I do dare say it, ignorance.
Hey, just my humble (yeah right ) opinion.
Anyway, back to the topic. I just got here two weeks ago, and nope, no test. If you do have to take one (I mean your friend....) all I did was drink lots of water and cranberry juice, but the system flush products for sale in the states do have the reputation of working, even in less than 24 hours. |

And I work for a university in Seoul and was not tested.
I don't smoke over here but find it annoying when people who drink judge people who smoke on moral grounds. In my country pot is smoked by lawyers, business men, corporate execs, designers, architechts, teachers, and all kinds of folks who hold down serious jobs and respectable roles in the community. Further, alcohol causes SO much distress and damage in society, I don't have figures on me now, but alcohol is involved in a stunning proportion of break-ins, robberies, assaults, car accidents, and spousal abuse. Have you ever heard of anyone starting a fight while on pot? Don't answer that, because the answer is no. You think because the govt has made something illegal that it MUST be wrong huh? Don't kid yourself that the govt gives a flying toss about your health or moral well-being. If they did they would outlaw alcohol and tobaco. The fact is, the govt would legalise pot of it felt it could control it and tax it, and if studies showed there would be enough profit in it. |
