I'm wondering why some people change their avatars so often.

Believe it or not, it really is your "face" on the board and people like myself use them to recognize posters.

For example, I was wondering, "Where's that interesting poster with the avatar that said, 'This requires further investigation!'"

Then I realized that he had morphed in the poster with "Dexy's Midnight Runners."

Now he's something else (some kind of blank TV screen).

I use avatars to recognize posters whom I've come to like or dislike, and use them to gauge whether or not I think I'll read something interesting or if I want to avoid someone I've deemed to be a retard who's not worth my precious time.

I've thought about changing my avatar, but I think that some people use it to recognize "me," so instead I just change my signature from time to time (as I did today).

So, why do you change your avatars?

You just have to pay more attention to our names. I don't take my avatar seriously enough to want to keep it around for very long. It's the same with with a painting at home; I'll eventually get tired of seeing the same thing all the time and replace it with something else. Sort of rotating the collection.

My avatars are like T-shirts. T-shirts with one-liners on them. They get tiresome, for me and I'm sure for others. I've used probably 20 or so different ones in my 2 years here.

I've never changed my avatar here, and I likely never will. Three reasons.

1) Why go to the work to do so?

2) As the OP says, it's the "face" that people have to identify me with.

3) I love the way rightwing wingnuts foam at the mouth at the sight of it, thinking they know anything about me and the far more complex nature of my political views than their small-minded preconceptions allow room for.

That one is best of all.

But some posters have names that look similar or have similar meanings, like "Anyway" and "Just Because" (I'd get those two mixed up if it weren't for "Just Because"`s avatar (or is that "Anyway"`s?).

Did you, Mr. J-Guru, same something in another thread about "Yu Bum Suk" and "Pak Yu Man"?

How about "Gangnam Dragon" and "Gangnam Mafioso"?

"Crazy Lemon Girl" and "Lemonade"?

"Dharma Bum" and "Zen Pickle"?

I can't keep all the names straight, especially since many of them seem to make no sense.

What is an Rteacher?

What's a ChimpumCallao?

For that matter, what about "Jongno Guru"? Does every -gu and -dong in Seoul have their own Guru? What happens if you infringe on the territory of Apgujong Guru? Does he kick your a$$?

They're not tiresome for me.

And they really are useful, believe it or not.

Back when Billybrobby had an avatar, it was like a signal that said, "Something potentially interesting here."

Now, I sometimes read something interesting and later say, "Oh, yeah, that was Billy."

Animated gifs are annoying, even when they have hot girls in them. Luckily I've got firefox with an add on, and now your moving gif is ZAPPED!

Because I can.

Why do some people always complain about what others do with their profiles?

Because they can.

I have a few avatars I use. It depends on my frame of mind. Right now I am feeling a bit hopeful, and I love the sea. My Buddha frame of mind is on hiatus for the moment- too much change going on, I guess.
