Lioness in zoo kills man who invoked God
KIEV (Reuters) - A man shouting that God would keep him safe was mauled to death by a lioness in Kiev zoo after he crept into the animal's enclosure, a zoo official said on Monday.
"The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," the official said.
"A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery."
The incident, Sunday evening when the zoo was packed with visitors, was the first of its kind at the attraction. Lions and tigers are kept in an "animal island" protected by thick concrete blocks. |
Boy first the efficacy of prayer study falls on its face and now this brilliant protocol... |

In all seriousness, do any of you agree that extreme religious faith is best characterized as a mental disorder? Surely this dude was crazy. Are others? |

Anyone I've met that seems to talk a lot about god is pretty unbalanced.
"My life was a wreck until I found god."
But haven't you noticed your life is still a wreck? |

Reminds me of the Taiwanese guy who tried to convert some lions to Christianity at a Taipei zoo a few years ago. He received a bite on the leg for his efforts. |

Haha...I don't think this applies to loons who deliberately put themselves in harms way. As for the historical account of Daniel..I think you'll find the circumstances were a bit different..
Daniel 6:17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of music brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
24 And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den. |

Mindmetoo may have heard other people say that, but he/she will never hear me say that.
On the contrary, my life was a wreck until I renounced religion.
I would tell you what a mess my religious life was, but it would be too embarrassing.
I never went in a lion's cage, but I did many things which were almost as foolish.
When I renounced all that supernatural hocus-pocus, I began to understand myself better and understand other people better.

I guess we all have our journeys to walk. Though I'm a person of faith, I would seriously question that chicken Kiev's balance. Doesn't prove or dissprove god's existence~ only proves that the guy choked on a bunch of dumb pills.
BTW, I don't follow my faith because it's going to ____ to me, (insert blank~ freshen breath, make me happy, whatever, ), but rather because I believe it's true. |

Lucas Tomas, 22, was said to have held his jacket like a bullfighter's cape at one of Buenos Aires zoo's two lions.
The lion, Quique, reacted by pouncing on him and repeatedly biting at him. TV footage showed the animal on top of him, visibly biting him at least once. |
