Exactly. Which is why you see so many Koreans living in places like Australia and Canada. They may not want to "be white", but they need to acknowledge that whites have built pleasant, livable societies that they prefer over Korea as places to live, work, and raise future generations. There's a lesson there for patchy and his ilk. |

I am just tired of hearing kyopos (and not just on this board) consistently ridicule white people (or "foreigners" in general) when it is their parents who made the decision to leave Korea for nations such as the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. that offer them a culture and lifestyle they value over that of their ostensible motherland. |

I think it is a bit different. White people don't often grow up dreaming of moving to an Asian country. Often the only reason they end up coming to Asia in the first place is because of work, and in the case for English teachers, there are often big recruiting schemes going on to get people over here. |
I think that depends. Some foreigners actually love Korea and in some ways would prefer to stay here. I am not saying I am one of them. But I know someone like that and there are others. I like the place and the women are generally friendly. I wish they weren't all so thin, but many of them are quite cute, in my opinion. And don't forget fellas, that much of Western civilization owes a lot of debt to the historical contributions of both Japan and China. Something to ponder. |

Nope. The first moveable type press was invented in Korea. The first printing press was invented in China. |

Well Zen Buddism isn't a major factor in Western Civilization, although I don't disagree that it could helps people with their lives.
I've heard the printing press idea before. But did Gutenburg steal this idea or was it thought of independently? |

The Japanese have contributed a lot in the field of electronics, for one thing. In terms of automotives, they produced the first hybrid car. There are I am sure scientific contributions in other realms. There is also the contribution of Japanese martial arts, health studies etc.... Japan is an advanced country. I am sure they must have also contributed much when it comes to dealing with earthquakes and construction. But there is a problem with a lack of funding for science in Japan.
As for China, there is paper that people mentioned and you mentioned gunpowder. China has also contributed to the west with acupuncture and Chinese traditional medicine. Certainly, most would agree that Chinese food is also better than typical Canadian/American food. |

No, *a* printing press was invented in Korea. It didn't catch on and is not the reason for the existence of the printing press in the world today.

What is civilization period without cars and electronics? Maybe you should think about world civilization and they have contributed to urban centers all over the world just as the U.S. has done. Japan and Korea are considered some of the most advanced countries in the world. Anyway, they don't all seem to be in a hurry to move to the U.S. |
