99.9% of New Brunswickers speak English? Oh, please. Don't make me laugh. Most Acadians can barely speak English, if they can at all. Bilingualism brings money to New Brunswick. How else would you explain the fact that St John has been replaced by Moncton (Dieppe) as the biggest economic centre in New Brunswick?
What would New Brunswick be without Acadians and Acadian culture? Not much. |
Please, spare me the simple logic. If you have ever read any Canada census data of late you would see that 99% of Greater Moncton does speak and understand English. As for New Brunswick, it is a have-not province, and especially the northeast, which is all francophone and where there has seen much population loss in the past 20 years. As for the French, in general, and what they have brought to New Brunswick, yes, your are correct, they have led to a duplication of hospitals in Moncton, as well as a duplication of services in both official languages thruout the Province. But, one can hardly blame them. The French service card is an economic trump card for the average francophone in New Brunswick who aspires to high-paid and low-working government jobs, be they at the local, provincial or federal level. Good for them and their insular ways. So, in closing, don't lecture me on what you know very little, obviously. |
Simple logic? Don't make me laugh. 99% of people in Moncton understand English? To what extent? Besides, not all New Brunswickers live in Moncton, do they?
You know little about New Brunswick if you think that the northeast is the only place where there are Francophones, and Francophones only. The vast majority of the people who live in Bathurst and Campbelton are not Francophones. Oh, and let's not forget Edmunston and Grand Sault (Grand Falls for those of you who aren't hip with the French linguo), which are mostly Francophone and situated in the northwest of NB.

Actually, it's the trump card for every bigotted unqualified unilingual anglophone who can't get a job. There aren't any immigrants to blame in New Brunswick for the the fact that they can't good jobs, so they use the same argument as yours to blame the French. |

| Actually, Froggie (I believe), it's spelled Edmundston. Just you reminding me of all those places I visited makes my tummy queasy. But, you are correct, I never met so many ignorant and anal people in all my life than when visiting the Campbellton and Bathurst areas of that God-Forsaken land, and most of them were the fearful French who either thought the English were going to take something away, or a miserable French who were blaming their poverty on the English. Some of the saddest people and conditions that I've run across in North America. You have my sympathies if you are from that land of misery and fear, and especially if your mother tongue is French. |

"Froggie"? What are you, 13? The French blaming their poverty on the English? You seem to confuse modern reality with the 40s and 50s when Acadians didn't have readily accessible secondary education in their own language. The thousands of Acadians living in those overpriced houses in Dieppe couldn't possibly own them, now could they? They must be squatters, right? Let's not forget the Acadian lobster and crab fishermen, who probably paid for their 4 million dollar vessels with their welfare checks (I'll give you that some probably paid for them by smuggling pot, hash, and cocaine to the US...but those are among a minority). In any case, thanks for reminding me that unilingual pride is pathetic. I had forgotten that it doesn't only exist in Korea. |

This bumper sticker can be seen on several pick-ups down here in the South. It's my fav.

Get er Done. Such is Life. Down here, we know who's in charge, and so does everyone else, and that's the way it is. We keep our government lean, we don't believe a word out of any politician's mouth, and we certainly ain't gonna give equal rights to any minority population and be burdened with costs we need not endure. Your mind is in the 1930's, but you contend that 6 years ago is an eternity. Nothing paranoid about her observations. He observations were accurate. Speaking of 'costs we need not endure', have they found chemical weapons in Iraq yet? |
