When I was wee little flotsam first in Korea back in 1997, and until very recently, I only ever used the Job Forum.
(Were there even different forums back then? I seem to remember a time when the Korea Board was all mixed-up with the rest of the world for both jobs and discussions--lifers please remind me.)
Next, I found some of the social/cultural issues discussed over on the General Discussion Forum to be quite fun and started posting more--nice.
But then I found the Off-Topic Forum where I can pick on Hare Krishnas; chat about bagels; keep up to date with Cubanlord's daily schedule at work and on the weekends(if I don't know his bedtime and when he is going to the movies, I worry) and also with Tibby's fetish for tall men that dribble; all while learning classic jokes from Wangja, cutting edge music ideas from a host of posters and classic BS from Jinju. Here I feel I have found a fun little home.
The other forums are pretty much driftwood to me, flotsam, if you will, that I rarely visit.
(Well, for a while I browsed the Current Events Forum, but those people bore the shyte out of me: I don't really rate discussions where no one can form an opinion.)
So, what about the rest of you punters?
=======
P.S. I did a search to see if someone had done this already, but couldn't find anything, so it's due in any event. But if someone does have a link to a previous thread of this nature, do post it. |
LOL. I am pretty bad aren't I? |

Don't worry, we'll be doing the raffle as soon as we hit the minimum participation requirement.
(And I flush out the Buy/Sell/Trade wiseass.) |

I started using Dave's back in the same era as Flotsam. One unmoderated wild-west-show board for the world.
Then I left Korea and, ironically, joined the lobby to separate Korea from the main board. Korea was separated, and China teachers took over clogging the main board with their tripe.
Then I left.
And came back during the 2004 election year.
So I'm born and bred CE.
I enjoy the "debate". Maybe not exactly, but it IS good to talk politics with people who don't share your own. It allows you to refine your own position.
For the past 3 months or so, I've been involved in my own "computer project" and have spent a lot more time online. So, I started coming over here to OT but still have trouble being nicer to people.
The funny thing is that Korea now has an awesome selection of forums and the rest of the world has crumbs.
Cool if you're teaching in Korea. A bummer if you're not. |

They are talking about that here: http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=58578&start=0
Yeah, I remember that pre-this board.. I was an active poster with a different name. I hated the way you had to wait for things to go through a moderation que and it would all show up randomly later. Plus anyone could post using any ID name.. so difficult to know if the masses disagreed with you.. or if just one person did using a whole lot of other names. |

Prior to the Korean boards (and still sometimes), I posted on the general board as "Isabel". I took that name because I was living in the Hotel Isabel in Mexico City. That seems like a lifetime ago!
Other than a brief period when I was being stalked in '04, I have used Desultude, well, mostly. |
