Hi everyone,
I am applying for the F-4 Visa. Both my parents were born in Korea, but denounced their citizenship. However, my mom lost her family registry. Is there a quick way to obtain a new one or show that my mom was born in Korea?
Also, after completing all the necessary information, how long will it take for the F-4 Visa to be in my hands? Thank you all in advance! |

Just a guess here...but try getting in touch with the local GU office for the area in which your family used to live.... |

You can get your family registry anywhere in the country. Every thing is computerized. However you will need to know the person's Korean name, the name who is the head of the hojuk, and the hojuk's family address (it is not necessarily the address where your mother/father lived). Also, it would help if you had a birth certificate with the name of your father and mother on it (english is okay). |

Do either of your parents still have an id card?
If so,even if they're closed you can access family registers from the machine out front.Costs w1000. |

Thanks everyone! The family registry wasn't lost! We found it this morning.
So I guess that part of the Visa problem is solved.
Both my parents said they renounced their citizenship. I found a paper stating my dad's renouncement, but I could not find something for my mom. Is there a form online where she can fill out the proper information? Thanks |

If you come, make certain that Korea doesn't consider you a citizen, for whatever strange reason. People have come over here, and ended up in the army because some relative registered their birth here, and they were considered citizens without knowing it. |

I too am going to apply for my F4 visa once I get into Korea, and after doing alot of research, I've been told that you only need one of your parents to denounce his/her Korean citizenship in order for you to qualify; therefore, I don't think you need to worry about filling out a form for your mom.
That being said, I have been told by someone at the Immigration office in Mok-Dong that I could go there and denounce my parents citizenship for them, so I'm assuming you could do the same.....you would need certian documents of course.
Hope this helps |
