"Just my two cents" does seem unnecessarily self-deprecating but it doesn't bother me nearly as much as IMHO ("in my humble opinion") which seems to imply the opposite of humility, and annoys me the way most other netacronyms (there. I just used it like it was a real word. Happy, Flotsy?) do.

Bait me again frog. Do it.

Okay, well, how about I just put this hook in my mouth like so... and wiggle around frantically for a while like so.... does that make you want to come over here for a nibble?

Okay, so then that "Listen biyatch" and "humourless tw*t" -- that was the 'real you' talking to the 'real person-in-front-of-the-computer-over-at-Thundarr's-office/home/pc bang', right?

Veronica is quoting is a short post I had submitted but then deleted right away. Why did I delete it? Because a post by Spin just prior to it could, along with mine, have looked like we were ganging up on her. Obviously, she saw my post and quoted it before I managed to delete it. No problem.

Anyway, here's the rest of her post:
Quote:
Well, actually, yes it was. I don't like the way he was talking to me after I clearly said that it was a joke and not to take it seriously. Nor do I think that what I said was offensive. Who thinks biyatch is offensive these days? It's tame. Please. This is a word that twelve year olds use. Tw*t? Okay, apparently I don't know what is cussing and what is not. Haven't you ever read stuff like myboyfriendisatwat.com? It's so silly, really guys.

Yes, even 12-yr-olds use bad words, but it wasn't the words as profanity that was offensive. I was thinking of the other kind of offensive, when we do or say something that we hope will cause offence to someone. And that was what I wanted to confirm: Were you being serious (not sarcastic) and intending for those words to cause offence to the person who calls himself Thundarr here on Dave's? What's it to me? Nothing really, but for one thing, I like Thundarr (though he may be blunt in expressing his opinions at times), and for another, it was just a little unfortunate to see so soon after you joined this forum.

Quote:
I better check myself from now on. Actually I cuss A LOT in real life, so I always think I'm censoring myself online but apparently not enough for some people.

I can't speak for other posters, but there's no need to check yourself on my account (see explanation above).

Quote:
Whatever I said was in jest, and I apologised to the people who misunderstood me. I didn't have anything against you Spinoza or anyone else on this thread. I misread the humor (or maybe other people misread it), no need to attack me. I really don't understand why people would want to interpret everything in the absolute worst possible light possible. It's just a joke. The cussing was a joke. Everything was a joke. Have any of my other posts every shown me to be anything but levelheaded? Use your brains, people.

I know what you're saying, and I think you're cool. It's just weird what happened, but it's not going to affect my opinion. As for the rest of the people here, I think one has to do a LOT, LOT worse than that to make a bad impression on Dave's! Laughing

Quote:
I don't get easily offended. Apparently other people do, and now they've succeeded in doing something very difficult - riling me up. So I am leaving before it gets ugly.

Hope you don't stay riled up or away for very long. Sad

I've thought about this one too. I think we come from neighbouring planets, and that's probably where the resemblance ends.

Okay, I'm not riled up anymore so I would just like to address some things that JongnoGuru said earlier:

The defense of my swearing was aimed at this comment by Spinoza (which I perceived as being a bit over the top)
Quote:

Veronica,
are you mental? Relax for heaven's sake! There's totally no need to swear at people like you've just done for little reason.

I seriously don't think that I was swearing like a mental patient. Heck, I don't even consider that kind of thing swearing, as I've already explained, but then I'll be the first to admit that I am totally ghetto.

I felt that I was being attacked for no reason at the time this argument was taking place, but looking back on it I was probably acting waaaay too relaxed in a public forum where people really don't know me. I just assumed that I had been here long enough to establish myself as not being a freaking psycho, but I can kind of see where people might have gotten confused about whether or not I was joking. Personally, I tend to interpret anything and everything that could be offensive as humorous, since I just assume that people are not setting out to be jerks.

In my defense I would never have joked around so much in this thread if this was not a forum that consistently talks about how hardcore it is and advises newbies to toughen up. I thought you guys could take it as good as you give it. Also I asked for a translation of this post by Thunndarr and was not answered:

Quote:
ROTFLMFAO as I read this? IMNSHO, STFU newbie, if you don't like it, get out of here. LOL!!!

The funny thing is that I didn't even realise it was directed at me because I couldn't understand most of it. Actually I'm still not sure; I'm just interpreting it that way in light of the recent dispute. (And I still can't understand half of it.) The truth is that if I had gotten some coherent indication that anyone was finding me slightly offensive or not funny I never would have pushed the joke, because I don't try to be rude and offensive. But everyone was ignoring it and acting like they didn't care, so I assumed they were getting it. Notice that as soon as someone asked me if I was joking I made a huge attempt to assure them that I was. It's not like I was playing sadistic headgames with you guys. So really, that speaking with a bunch of letters thing has got to stop. It not only looks incredibly stupid, but it is also completely incomprehensible to people (like me) who do not use IM services. I suspect that a lot of stupid and pointless debate could have been avoided by people not spelling like a chimpanzee on crack.

The reason I got so annoyed with Thunndarr later on probably looks a bit illogical, but here is the gist of it: I'd just read a good chunk of a website that Thunndarr had linked to in another post and the humor was far harsher and more sarcastic than mine is. (That's an understatement, by the way.) So I stupidly assumed (Embarassed ) that he had a really sarcastic sense of humor and expected him, of all people, to get my antics. Not to mention the fact that I just got through saying that the whole thing was a big joke. So I was basically thinking "what on earth is this guy's personal problem with me?" Now I believe that it was probably all an honest misunderstanding (and that he was genuinely confused by me, not just tormenting me) so I kind of regret acting snarky towards him. And he did make a good point about me exaggerating a bit. It's a bad habit that I use for dramatic effect, which doesn't sit well with people who want cold, hard facts. So I agree that I was a bit cantankerous in my answer.

Although I still don't think I was acting 'scary' like Kermo said. Actually, I find that silly. People need to learn how to deal with complex situations by the time they're adults, or please just stay off the internet for cying out loud. No means no. Yes means yes. At least if you're a mature, intelligent adult, which I generally assume people are until they prove themselves otherwise. When somebody says they're joking it means they're joking. When someone says they're annoyed, it means that they're not joking anymore. Headgames are just disturbing and childish. If you think you need to engage in them, I don't know what to say to you. And I don't understand why people feel the need to read secret meanings into simple statements that create 'bewildering' and 'scary' scenarios around them. Nor do I feel like debating this, so if you want to waste your time with it don't expect me to jump in like a tool.

From now on I am totally keeping my whacked out sense of humor off this forum. If Kermo is even a little bit accurate about the proper way to behave on this forum than I do not want to take any part in it. However, I sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience caused. And when I say I'm sorry I truly mean that. Please do not read any bewildering hidden messages into it. I made a joke. It fell flat. I'm fricking sorry.

Here are the appropriate emoticons, just in case anyone is having a hard time interpreting my tone right now: Sad Crying or Very sad

This may be just blood to the sharks, Kermo, but if that's true than at least I'm the better person. And truthfully, I don't know who you're trying to call a shark when you say that because, while I think people were over emotional here, I would not stoop that low with the name calling. I find it offensive that you profess to know what I think better than I do myself and I doubt that other people want you interpreting their motives either. That kind of smug arrogance is far more insulting to me than any bad humor, misunderstanding, or grammatical criticism ever could be. I, personally, am not afraid to be misunderstood because at least I'm true to myself. I find it sad that you think you can't be sincere and that you have to go around attacking other people and questioning their motives because of your own hang ups. Unless you were flippantly joking about that, in which case I totally misread your cues.

To clarify then, this was actually in response to this post about 'netacronyms.' And to be further, abundantly, zestfully clear, it had nothing to do with you Veronica. I didn't know who you were before this wonderful thread came along.

Nowhere near as bad or irritating.

Nonsense!!

Humble!?!?!?! And anyone who employs an netacronym is a ponce.

I mean, WTF?

**EDIT**

I just checked: I am the first to use netacronym in this context(it's some sort of software or something though). Anyway, it's MINE.

Puhahahahahahahaha

So, naturally, I thought it might be mildly amusing, if slightly predictable, to use a bunch in my post.

Okay Thunndarr, that totally makes sense. Because I didn't think it had anything to do with me at all at the time. Only later when certain people started acting like I was missing something important did I start reading into everything. Anyway I'm sorry we fought, because you seemed like a nice enough guy before that. (You might not remember me from other threads, but I do remember you.)

And in that case, I'm also very sorry I said that you spell like a chimpanzee on crack.

But I also have proof now that no one insinuated in the slightest that I was offensive or that they didn't get my joke. And when one person did I answered in the most light hearted, honest, good natured way possible. So the attacks on my 'sincereness' were unsolicited and I stand by my indignation and disgust for certain people's self-righteousness and judgementalness about that.

Veronica, that's the nastiest thing anyone has taken the time to write to me on this forum over the last two years. The irony is that I was actually trying to be helpful by giving you some perspective. I don't know what's going on in your head, and I don't profess to know, but what I was trying to say is "you're not coming through." Your sense of humour and your personality don't automatically transmit despite your paragraphs and paragraphs of prose. I wasn't attacking you. I was just hoping to give you some advice before people tell you in less gentle terms and it gets ugly. What I didn't expect was that you would be the one making it ugly. Please don't misunderstand-- I'm not going to take this personally and I'm confused that you'd read me that way, but not upset. Write what you like and you'll discover what I meant for yourself.

I love a challenge.

Hmmm...

Kermo is a poopy-head! Kermo is a poopy-head!

I slaved over that.

Actually, thanks VR: the frog is clearly the most malicious poster on Dave's Rolling Eyes.

I've seen a bunch of your posts and you seem nice enough, so I would recommend chilling. Spin is an aggressive northerner and Kermo is a sweetie with quirky taste in headgear. Chill.

If not, I curse you to a thousand years of posting with your only partners being Tarheel13, Patchy and Rteacher.

Chips or popcorn, chips or popcorn... Any recommendations?

And Flot-Sam, couldn't get you to tone down all the colourful zowiness a bit there, could we? It's like I'm watching a Disney animation. Yes. A Disney animation.

meantime, look at this and tell me if you can see the objects on DIFFERENT planes. That's right, there are in this one MORE than two planes. I'm sure one of them was unintended, yet it was the first one I found. It's quite impressive, the image. I just assumed that was it, that was the embedded image. Then I researched this one and knew that what I'd seen wasn't what they thought they were embedding. I later found the intended image, which is okay though nothing special. Oh, but first one was a design masterpiece. I was annoyed because once I'd found the intended image, I couldn't find the earlier one however I tried. Finally caught it again just now and sketched it. Quite nice, and all the better for being an accident by the designer/engineer of this autostereogram.
