Hmm, a victim of Al-Zarqawi talks to Soledad O'Brien and what a shock, he's not a right wingnut like so many on this board, check out what he has to say here:

The BBC's Andrew North in Baghdad says that if the reports are proved to be true it will be seen as a very significant moment in the fight against the insurgency, especially as it comes early in the life of Mr Maliki's government.

Does the viability of the insurgency(by which I assume to mean everyone in Iraq who is using violence to end the occupation) really depend on the well-being of Mr. Zarqawi?

On the face of it, this sorta sounds like yet another attempt to spin a less-than-apocalyptic event as "the beginning of the end for the insurgency". I remember similar claims being made when Saddam was arrested, as if the point of the insurgency was to get Saddam Hussein The Man Himself back in office.

Yes, on the face of it. But this death changes everything. And, I think the effect of the capture of Saddam was understated, and eventually the carnage that came afterwards rained on the Bush rhetoric pretty hard. But to those who believe that this is an isolated death, that only Zarqawi was killed, I remind them that much of his organization was attacked in roughly the same period in what I believe was 17 concurrent attacks.

I predict the number of suicide bombings in Iraq to drop to 1/3 in the next few months, and they are not likely to rise above 1/2 by the American elections in November.

Excellent.

A very compassionate man, next to whom the supporters of the war look ignorant, bloodthirsty, vengeful and inhumane.

Soledad: I have to say sir I'm surprised, I know how devastated you were-your family was frankly when Nick was killed in such a horrible and brutal---

Berg: Well you shouldn't be surprised because I have never said anything but forgiveness and peace...

I saw that live. I was like "jeez, he really slapped her back." Good thing she did her research! Her Ass Covering Move about her bonehead, uniformed question wasn't that impressive.

I'm glad the guy has the video up because the transcript can't really capture the contempt in Berg's voice at the question.
