Hello all, B.Ed Secondary - English Major here, is it possible to do a Master's degree (suitable for this ESL field) in one year anywhere? I know myself too well to believe that I could do an online degree; I have to study full-time on campus, so the online route is not for me. Any other possibilities?
(This is an edited version, I should have mentioned I'm a Canadian.)

| You can in England and at some Canadian universities - a word of warning about Canadian universities, though - some of them have MAs that are theoretically possible to do in one year, but very, very few people can actually manage it. |

And the town of Brattleboro, Vermont is a really cool mountain town!
But yeah, it'll set back you a large bundle of money. Looks like an incredible program however. |

The MA's at Teachers College, Columbia University are one year long: Fall, Spring and two Summer semesters. They have TESOL and Applied Linguistics.

My Trinity trainer did two of the MA's there. Raved and raved. |

| How long would it take to get it marked though? |

Many MAT's are fast track 1-year programs to alure potential teachers into classrooms. I'm working on one myself but it's not online.
Suppose I were want to teach at a Korean uni after completion, would Korean unis look at these as favorable? |

I have only researched schools in the Buffalo, NY area, but I can tell you that Canisius College, Niagara University, and D'Youville College all have M.Ed. programs that will leave you with a Masters degree and teaching certificates for both New York State (good in 48 states) plus Ontario.
These programs ain't cheap though, at about $20K USD. |

| Thank you all for your informative and prompt replies! I will be coming to Korea for a second year soon (was in Goyang City a few years back). |

It takes 2 years (if you choose to do the practicum) but is partially distance so you can work between semesters. Classes go for 2 weeks eac h in January and June. |

| The program at Nova Southeastern University can be done in one year if you are only a student. I finished it in a year and a half while working, but it was difficult. |

That's very interesting ... do you mean that these are typically 2 year programs that give you the option to attempt completion in a single year? (I'm Canadian by the way) |

This sounds most interesting indeed; I might consider 2 years since it's in a part of the world I've never visited and the cost is low. Can you tell me all about it? Do you have a blog or anything like that? I'd be keen to hear as much as you can tell me considering you're probably very busy all the time. |
