The private university where I teach will allow me to resign one semester early if I am accepted to a masters degree program.

1.) If I resign early am I entitled to any severance or pension payments for the 1.4 years that I have worked at the school?

2.) Do I need to leave the country in order to change from an E2 visa to a D2 student visa?

(Position filled)

The notification results will be available next week on June 14th. If I am accepted my school will be looking for a business English teacher for next semester. I'll post the results here in case someone is interested in my job. (Be advised - you must have a business degree.)

You are legally entitled to 1 month severance for the complete year that you worked.

Allow me to quote, "If a worker has worked for more than one year in a workplace with 5 workers or more, the worker shall be given severance pay in the amount of at least 30-day average wages for each year of service. Severance pay, in principle, should be paid after retirement. However, should a worker request, he or she may receive, in advance, severance pay corresponding to their years of service to date."

You should be able to simply change your visa (without a visa run) from E2 to D2 by going to the immigration office and submitting the form for a "Change of Status".

You may also require proof of admittance to a university as a full time student and proof of funds to support yourself as well as your ARC and Passport.

Hope that helped.

Agreed with ttompatz. You may be told that you have to leave the country to change to a D-2 by some workers but YOU DON'T HAVE TO. I was lucky that someone finally realized that for me (but I needed to have my husband talk to someone high up who wasn't necessarily the best English speaker in the office to get that info). The Canadian Embassy and the person I spoke with at immigration both told me I'd have to leave the country.

Good luck and enjoy your studies!

You will also need to submit a BA diploma and transcripts to Immigration AGAIN. Even if they already have it on file twice...
